A Christmas Caroline by Camilla Isley #Review #Giveaway

The Christmas novels just keep on coming! We have another standalone romcom in Camilla Isley's Christmas Collection. A Christmas Caroline was published on October 26th by Pink Bloom Press. I also have a great International giveaway with the chance to win a copy of A Christmas Date. Details on how to enter are at the foot of this post.

A modern-day retelling of A Christmas Carol…

Caroline is a cynic career woman living the high life in Manhattan where love and relationships are but a distant memory of the past.

But after a freak accident on Christmas Eve, Caroline receives a visit from a cheeky spirit of Christmas Past, Present, Yet to Come, and—most importantly—Christmas That Could Have Been. When she wakes up on Christmas Day suddenly married with three kids and living two doors down from her parents in New Jersey, Caroline has a chance to experience the life she would’ve had if she’d made a different choice.

Will small-town life as a mother and a wife make her rediscover what’s really important in life?

 My Thoughts

I thoroughly enjoyed the echoes of A Christmas Carol in this romcom. Although the link is clear, there are enough differences to enable the story to stand on its own feet and have its own distinctive voice. Caroline is a vividly drawn character whose reactions to her predicament bring real humour to the story. I liked her growing relationship with the young people she met and how she had to re-assess what makes for a successful life.

I also enjoyed the other characters' reactions to Caroline. Sam, it seems, has the patience of a saint. Second chances, starting again. appreciating family ties are all associated with the end of the year and the start of a new one. There is a certain tension in the background throughout as you wonder what is going to happen and when. Still it is a warm festive story which captures love of family and shows you how decisions made at certain key moments can change the path of someone's life.

In short: an entertaining festive read
