The Earl's Unlikely Bride by Ella Matthews #Review #TheDashworthBrothersBook1

We are back in Regency England for Ella Matthews' historical romance, The Earl's Unlikely Bride.    One summer to make her his…   After four failed seasons, Emily Hawkins is tired of following the rules. Aside from crossing swords with her lifelong enemy, Freddie Dashworth, she is an exemplary member of Society. But after all this time, she’s yet to find a husband and life with her over-bearing mother is becoming intolerable. Freddie returns to his childhood home to help look after his orphaned niece. His neighbour, Emily, has been his nemesis for years. The infuriating miss is the only woman immune to his charms and there’s nothing he enjoys more than her disapproving glares. It’s a shame he can’t stop thinking about her, because she clearly despises him. One minor indiscretion later and everything in Emily’s ordered world changes. The Wedding Cake by Isabella May #Review #FoodieRomanceJourneys

I am delighted to be featuring Isabella May on the blog today with her latest novel, The Wedding Cake.  I thoroughly enjoyed Isabella's Costa del Churros , Oh! What a Pavlova, The Cocktail Bar,  The Ice Cream Parlour Bubblegum and Blazers, The Custard Tart Cafe by the Sea.

 One summer in Spain.

One accidentally double-booked eight-tier wedding cake that needs to put in a same day appearance at a rustic countryside finca AND a beachside villa.

Two brides.

Two grooms.

Hundreds of hungry guests.

Freya Ashcroft, owner and culinary whizz at Marbella’s five star bakery, is going to need a miracle to ‘save the date’. If only that was her sole dilemma - as luck wouldn't have it, she's also fallen head over heels in love with one of the aforementioned male clients...

 My Thoughts

Under the umbrella of 'foodie romance journeys' this latest from Isabella May does not disappoint. The food sounded delicious and reflected the setting and drew the characters today. Freya is at the centre of the story as she catered for the different couples' weddings and also tried to sort out a few of her own personal issues. Having met River and Alice before, I loved being able to catch up with their story and to see how their own wedding plans panned out. Tim also had my sympathy but oh dear, his love life was certainly complicated and I was willing him to make the right decision.

You are able to contrast some genuine friendships and relationships with the false social media driven motives of a few others. There were plenty of opportunities for humour to be had at their expense. This is an entertaining summer read which whisks you off to Spain, to Marbella and which is filled with the sunshine and food of that beautiful part of the world.

In short: great holiday reading

About the Author

Isabella May lives in (mostly) sunny Andalusia, Spain with her husband, daughter and son, creatively inspired by the mountains and the sea. She grew up in Somerset on Glastonbury's ley lines and loves to feature her quirky English hometown in her stories.

After a degree in Modern Languages and European Studies at UWE, Bristol (and a year working abroad in Bordeaux and Stuttgart), Isabella bagged an extremely jammy and fascinating job in children's publishing... selling foreign rights for novelty, board, pop-up and non-fiction books all over the world; in every language from Icelandic to Korean, Bahasa Indonesian to Papiamento!

All of which has fuelled her curiosity and love of international food and travel - both feature extensively in her romcoms.

Isabella is also a Level 4 Pranic Healer and a stillbirth mum.
