Shared Secrets for the Home Front Nurses by Rachel Brimble #Review #HomeFrontNurses

It is now 1943 and we follow the lives of the Home Front Nurses as they cope with the effects of the Second World War. Shared Secrets for the Home Front Nurses by Rachel Brimble is published on February 13th by Boldwood Books .     ‘Come on, Kathy… tell me a secret.’ 1943: Becoming a Home Front nurse, meant Kathy Scott was finally able to escape the violence of her childhood. At long last, her life has taken a turn for the better. Particularly because, for the very first time, she’s made some wonderful friends–fellow nurses Sylvia, Freda and Veronica. Kathy’s known for not being short of a word or two. So nobody’s more surprised than her when she finds herself tongue-tied around Freda’s handsome brother, James – who’s home from war with an unexplained injury.   My Thoughts   The story of the Home Front Nurses continues into 1943 and Freda's ambition to nurse abroad gets ever closer. Her brother ,James, returns from the war having had a traumatic experi...

Coming Home to Puddleduck Farm by Della Galton #Review

This is a lovely start to a new series. Coming Home to Puddleduck Farm by Della Galton which was published on August 29th by Boldwood Books

When your heart's broken, all roads lead home...

London City Vet, Phoebe Dashwood, finds her partner Hugh and their boss in a passionate clinch beneath the mistletoe at their works Christmas party.

Heartbroken, she bolts to the New Forest, her childhood home to regroup and soul search.

Being home gives Phoebe the chance to reconnect with friends and family and especially with her fiercely independent gran, widower Maggie Crowther, owner of Puddleduck Farm, and makeshift animal shelter New Forest Neddies.

Deciding not to return to London, Phoebe hunts for work locally, hoping she can also help Maggie, who’s clearly swamped and not coping. But will Maggie accept Phoebe’s help?

Her quest is hampered by stubborn grandmothers, meddling mums, an attractive childhood friend, a real-life Lord, a remorseful ex, and a best friend who’s determined to play matchmaker.

Can Phoebe find happiness professionally and personally in the place she calls home, surrounded by those she loves or does fate have other plans for Phoebe?

 My Thoughts

I have got great hopes for this series as it has established some interesting characters which I found to be totally credible. Phoebe has returned to her childhood village in the New Forest and has some long term decisions to make. Having lost her job as a vet due to the situation with her ex-boyfriend, Phoebe finds her views on her future have changed and re-discovers her love for her grandmother's small holding which is being run as a refuge for waifs and strays.

Phoebe meets up again with friends from her childhood who are full of fun and genuine feelings. Like Phoebe, you feel they are at a crossroads in their lives. Also, I loved her family who were warm and affectionate but also full of humour. Her grandmother stole the show for me, with her fierce independent streak and determination to not be a burden on her family. You are left, like Phoebe, looking to the future, full of anticipation as to how the series is going to develop.

In short: The first in a new series full of potential
