The Little Theatre on Halfpenny Lane by Clodagh Murphy #Review #HalfpennyLaneBook1

I am delighted to feature the latest feelgood novel by Clodagh Murphy, The Little Theatre on Halfpenny Lane which was published by Balally Books on August 11th.
The show must go on ...

Aoife and her sisters know exactly what to do when they inherit their Great-aunt Detta’s theatre on Halfpenny Lane:
  • Restore the dilapidated building to its former glory.
  • Perform together on its stage to packed houses and rapturous applause.
  • Live happily ever after.

But they didn’t count on Detta leaving a share in the theatre to her godson, Jonathan. Now they’ll have to persuade him to buy into their vision of stardust and magic – or find the money to buy him out.

As they fight to save the theatre, Aoife also battles her growing feelings for Jonathan. Because she can’t let herself fall for the man who’s about to bring the curtain down on their dreams.

High stakes, high drama and high jinks – coming soon to Halfpenny Lane.

 My Thoughts
Family is an important component of this novel and the ties between the three sisters are very strong. Similarly, Jonathan has his own complicated family history and family loyalties are strong.  In some ways, Great Aunt Detta's presence is always there and you get a real sense of what an interesting character she was. Of the three sisters, Aoife's life has been the most impacted by her parents' death as she has had to step up and take on the parental role in relation to her younger sisters. In doing this, her own creative ambitions have suffered and the question in this novel seems to be, will she be able to step outside her responsibilities and move on. Also, are her sisters still reliant on her ir are they ready to assert their own independence,
The idea of the old theatre is a lovely one and lends itself to an interesting plot and hopefully, some future return visits. There is a touch of romance, hints at future story lines, and also some gentle humour as the sisters struggle to re-open the theatre. This is a fun, warm read with with some lively characters  and the odd surprise along the way.
In short: siblings take to the stage
