Shared Secrets for the Home Front Nurses by Rachel Brimble #Review #HomeFrontNurses

It is now 1943 and we follow the lives of the Home Front Nurses as they cope with the effects of the Second World War. Shared Secrets for the Home Front Nurses by Rachel Brimble is published on February 13th by Boldwood Books .     ‘Come on, Kathy… tell me a secret.’ 1943: Becoming a Home Front nurse, meant Kathy Scott was finally able to escape the violence of her childhood. At long last, her life has taken a turn for the better. Particularly because, for the very first time, she’s made some wonderful friends–fellow nurses Sylvia, Freda and Veronica. Kathy’s known for not being short of a word or two. So nobody’s more surprised than her when she finds herself tongue-tied around Freda’s handsome brother, James – who’s home from war with an unexplained injury.   My Thoughts   The story of the Home Front Nurses continues into 1943 and Freda's ambition to nurse abroad gets ever closer. Autumn Wishes and Fireside Kisses by Rosie Green #Review #LittleDuckPondBookBook42

Welcome to Book 42 in the Little Duck Pond Cafe series! Autumn Wishes and Fireside Kisses  is the latest novella by Rosie Green.

A Hallowe'en wedding is taking place in Sunnybrook! One well-loved Little Duck Pond Café regular will be walking down the aisle at a reputedly haunted manor house miles from anywhere – and it's set to be the spookiest and most fun Big Day ever. But when the local river floods and the wedding party is stranded there overnight, weird things start to happen. Are ghostly antics at play here? Or is there something far more sinister going on? Will the wedding even go ahead?

My Thoughts

This seasonal story puts a different twist on a wedding with  a wedding between two of Sunnybrook's older residents who decide on a gothic, spooky theme.  Different generations come together to celebrate but when some ghostly happenings occur, it is obvious that all is not going as smoothly as it could. The Autumnal season is a fitting backdrop for the bride and groom who have lived full lives but found each other in later life.

Alongside the wedding couple, we are introduced to Celia who has buried all her ambitions in her television career as a celebrity florist. As the story develops, you realise that Celia is still nursing a broken heart from her youth. When she meets up again with someone from her past, she finds herself reassessing all her priorities. There is humour, mystery and romance in this tale and a chance to catch up again with familiar faces from the Little Duck Pond Cafe.

In short: Hallowe'en high jinks and romantic nights
