The Maid's Masquerade by Catherine Tinley #Review ~THeHeiressSwitchBook1

Here we are in a Regency romance with Catherine Tinsley for the first in her Heiress Switch Series. The Maid's Masquerade was published by Harlequin Historicals on November 20th.

An heiress and a maid swap places in brand-new duet The Heiress Switch

Undercover as the Earl’s fiancée

And to settle old scores…

Part of The Heiress Switch: On a transatlantic voyage, English maid Marguerite hatches a plan with an American heiress to temporarily trade places when they arrive in England. Forced into servitude, this is Marguerite’s chance to re-enter Society, and posing as the betrothed of Benedict, Earl of Linford—the man at fault for her circumstances—is the perfect opportunity for revenge! But her anger is soon replaced by an unsettling attraction. Still, Benedict caused her to lose everything once and she won’t lose her heart to him now—even when he reveals some unexpected truths…

Perfect for fans of:

  Hidden identity

  Enemies to lovers

 My Thoughts

The first of two stories in the Heiress Switch series, we meet Marguerite, who swaps identity with her mistress for a short time and who has to pose as the soon to be fiancee of Benedict, Lord Linford. As you find out, Marguerite has not always been born from the servant class and she has a few scores to settle with Benedict. Marguerite, or Daisy as she is known as a servant, relishes the chance to live the life she should have had for a short time, but as you discover, she has determination and the will to survive.

You are introduced to a range of characters who add colour to this Regency story. London is at a quieter time in the season but there is plenty of period detail to set the scene. Away from London in Benedict's country retreat, you are able to see a different side to both Benedict and Catherine who shows empathy for his tenants and that she would be able to fulfil the post of Countess.  As Marguerite discovers more about Benedict, she has to confront some events from her past. You are also left anticipating the second in the series.

In short: hidden identities, past secrets
