We are back in Regency England for Ella Matthews' historical romance, The Earl's Unlikely Bride.    One summer to make her his…   After four failed seasons, Emily Hawkins is tired of following the rules. Aside from crossing swords with her lifelong enemy, Freddie Dashworth, she is an exemplary member of Society. But after all this time, she’s yet to find a husband and life with her over-bearing mother is becoming intolerable. Freddie returns to his childhood home to help look after his orphaned niece. His neighbour, Emily, has been his nemesis for years. The infuriating miss is the only woman immune to his charms and there’s nothing he enjoys more than her disapproving glares. Chocolate Cake for Breakfast by Rosie Green #Review #LittleDuckPondSeriesno20

Welcome to Book 20 in the marvellous Little Duck Pond Cafe series of novellas, with Chocolate Cake for Breakfast, by Rosie Green!

After a shocking accident, Martha Munro has given up on her childhood dreams. With her confidence shattered, even leaving the house is scary, and a promising romance with gorgeous Logan is over before it even has a chance to begin. But cheered on by her dad and her great friend, Madison, she makes a decision that could change everything. Can Martha find the courage to step out into the world and love again?

 My Thoughts

With an ever- increasing cast of characters, the Little Duck Pond series is as welcoming as ever. This time, we get to read Martha's story who is linked to the earlier characters through Madison. A bit of a romantic and aspiring writer, Martha seems to be on the brink of success when a terrible accident brings her some dreadful circumstances. Having lost her confidence, you see her trying to regain her belief in herself and to re-build her life.

The Swan Hotel in Sunnybrook is the setting for much of the story and Martha meets some lively characters there. In addition, we catch up with Primrose and Sam who have had a beautiful baby boy. Martha finds that Primrose's difficulties resonate with how her mother was when she was a baby and once again, friendships are very important in this close-knit community.

In short: friendships flourish in this gentle romance
