Shared Secrets for the Home Front Nurses by Rachel Brimble #Review #HomeFrontNurses

It is now 1943 and we follow the lives of the Home Front Nurses as they cope with the effects of the Second World War. Shared Secrets for the Home Front Nurses by Rachel Brimble is published on February 13th by Boldwood Books .     ‘Come on, Kathy… tell me a secret.’ 1943: Becoming a Home Front nurse, meant Kathy Scott was finally able to escape the violence of her childhood. At long last, her life has taken a turn for the better. Particularly because, for the very first time, she’s made some wonderful friends–fellow nurses Sylvia, Freda and Veronica. Kathy’s known for not being short of a word or two. So nobody’s more surprised than her when she finds herself tongue-tied around Freda’s handsome brother, James – who’s home from war with an unexplained injury.   My Thoughts   The story of the Home Front Nurses continues into 1943 and Freda's ambition to nurse abroad gets ever closer. Snow Falls Over Sunnybrook by Rosie Green #Review #Novella #LittleDuckPondSeries

Welcome to Book 18 in the marvellous Little Duck Pond Cafe series of novellas, with Snow Falls over Sunnybrook, by Rosie Green. !

The chance to spend a night ghost-hunting alone with Hudson Holmes at Brambleberry Manor seems like a dream come true for Ruby Watkiss. Maybe, she thinks, this is their chance to get closer? But when mysterious goings-on start happening which have nothing to do with the spirit world, the pair are catapulted off on another sleuthing adventure. And as the snow starts to fall and emotions are rising at the Little Duck Pond Cafe, Ruby is faced with a double challenge. Can she be braver than she's ever been, in order to rescue something very close to her heart? And can she convince Hudson that Christmas really can be the most wonderful time of the year?

My Thoughts

As ever, I enjoyed a return trip to Sunnybrook and was keen to discover how Ruby and Hudson's story was going to pan out. These two amateur sleuths have had their own little cosy crime trilogy within the series which has expended the scope of the stories and added some energy to the storylines. I like how their investigations have been interwoven into the lives of the characters we know so well.

This is a warm and inviting series. It takes you from Hallowe'en through to Christmas so is perfect winter reading. Whether Ruby and Hudson ever move past best friends I will leave for you to discover. Just be aware that the story is full of friendship, romance and the odd surprise.

In short: a warm, comforting read
