#SkelfSummer The Opposite of Lonely by Doug Johnstone #Review #Repost

I am delighted to take part in the #SkelfSummer celebrations showcasing all things Skelf in the run up to the publication of Book 6 in the series, Living is a Problem . Over the next few weeks I will be reminding you about the series by Doug Johnstone with a repost of Skelf novels.  Book 5  in the series is called The Opposite of Lonely .   Even death needs company… The Skelf women are recovering from the cataclysmic events that nearly claimed their lives. Their funeral-director and private-investigation businesses are back on track, and their cases are as perplexing as ever. Matriarch Dorothy looks into a suspicious fire at an illegal campsite and takes a grieving, homeless man under her wing. Daughter Jenny is searching for her missing sister-in-law, who disappeared in tragic circumstances, while grand-daughter Hannah is asked to investigate increasingly dangerous conspiracy theorists, who are targeting a retired female astronaut … putting her own life at risk. Never Too Late by TA Williams #Review #BeneathItalianSkiesBook1 #PublicationDay

Today we have a lovely holiday romance from TA Williams. Never Too Late is the first in a new series, Beneath Italian Skies Book 1 and is published by Canelo, today.

A second chance to realise her dreams…

A classically trained pianist, Steph works as a recording engineer for a small studio when she’s offered the job of a lifetime – travel to the Italian Riviera to help world-famous band, Royalty, record their reunion album after a decades-long hiatus.

Steph could definitely do with the distraction. Her boyfriend – who also happens to be her boss – is increasingly unreliable and erratic, and she’s awaiting news from her doctor after a recent biopsy. So an all-expenses-paid trip to Italy is the perfect escape.

What she doesn’t expect is an instant connection with Rob, the son of Royalty’s lead singer. With her career – and her heart – at a crossroads, what path will Steph follow?

 My Thoughts

We are off to the beautiful Italian Riviera for this escapist romance by TA Williams. I always enjoy his books and this one is no exception. Steph is at a bit of a crossroads in her life with some big decisions to make in her personal life. There is a certain glamour about her assignment in Italy, but can she take her opportunities and trust her first impressions? She also has some health concerns on her mind.

The setting with its gorgeous scenery, delicious food and all the sights and colours of the coast are a big part of the appeal of the book. I waited patiently for a hopeful Labrador to appear and Waldorf did not disappoint. He was as exuberant and affectionate as I’d expect. With a large cast of characters and a tantalising ‘will they, won’t they?’ set up, this makes for an ideal holiday read.

In short: if music be the food of love…

About the Author

I’m a man. And a pretty old man as well. I did languages at university a long time ago and then lived and worked in France and Switzerland before going to Italy for seven years as a teacher of English. My Italian wife and I then came back to the UK with our little daughter (now long-since grown up) where I ran a big English language school for many years. We now live in a sleepy little village in Devonshire. I’ve been writing almost all my life but it was only nine years ago that I finally managed to find a publisher who liked my work enough to offer me my first contract.

The fact that I am now writing escapist romance is something I still find hard to explain. My early books were thrillers and historical novels and I now also write cozy crime, but my first love is romance. Maybe it’s because there are so many horrible things happening in the world today that I feel I need to do my best to provide something to cheer my readers up. My books provide escapism to some gorgeous locations, even if travel to them is currently difficult.
