Letting Go of Yesterday by Jo Bartlett #Review #TheCornishBayCollection

We are back to Cornwall to the community of Port Agnes with Jo Bartlett. Letting Go of Yesterday , the first in a new series, was published by Boldwood on November 9th . Sometimes the only way forward… is to go back. When Rowan Bellamy’s marriage collapses in spectacular styl e, she retreats with her two children, Bella and Theo, to the last place she ever wanted to return—her windswept Cornish hometown of Port Agnes. Taking the headteacher role at the local primary school is the easy part. Facing village gossip, curious neighbours, and old flames? Not so much. Especially when one of those flames turns out to be Nathan Lark — the boy who broke her heart and the man who now has a reputation as bruised as her own. With his young nephew Leo a pupil in Rowan’s school, she and Nathan are thrown into each other’s lives once more. And whether she likes it or not, the chemistry between them is impossible to ignore. As salty sea air begins to soothe old wounds and Port Agnes slow...

Where We Belong by Sarah Bennett #Review

I am delighted to be on the tour to celebrate a new series by Sarah Bennett. Set in the Cotswolds, Where We Belong is published on March 9th by Boldwood Books

On paper, Hope Travers has an idyllic life.

Living in a bustling farmhouse with her mum, aunt and uncles, cousin and too many dogs to count, surrounded by the breath-taking Cotswolds countryside, she knows she is privileged and protected.

But all families have secrets, and the Travers family are no exception. Their farmhouse sits in the grounds of the Juniper Meadows estate, passed down through the generations and now being made to pay its own way with a myriad of businesses and projects. When a construction crew uncover what appear to be historical ruins, the history of the Travers family is put under ever closer scrutiny as a dig gets underway.

Hope may have found a blossoming romance with local archaeologist Cameron Ferguson who is running the dig, but when things start to go wrong around the estate and family secrets begin to be revealed, Hope wonders if she’s made a big mistake in digging up the past.

My Thoughts

With the first in a new series, expectations are high and this does not disappoint. The family and community at Juniper Meadows are so likeable that you want to follow their stories and unravel the secrets that there are in their past. Hope’s very name sets the tone for the story which feels positive and caring. There are different models of families and class backgrounds but there is always more to what people have in common than any distinctions in background.

The Juniper Meadows setting has much potential for an interesting series. I really enjoyed the archaeology sections of the book and the fascination with the past. Romance is a slow burn but seems to fit the characters. Relationships within families and generations can be complicated but are an important part of life at Juniper Meadows as the younger generation try to establish some independence within the family. I am full of anticipation that this will be a series to look forward to. A great start.

In short: family, friendships, secrets, romance
