#SkelfSummer The Opposite of Lonely by Doug Johnstone #Review #Repost

I am delighted to take part in the #SkelfSummer celebrations showcasing all things Skelf in the run up to the publication of Book 6 in the series, Living is a Problem . Over the next few weeks I will be reminding you about the series by Doug Johnstone with a repost of Skelf novels.  Book 5  in the series is called The Opposite of Lonely .   Even death needs company… The Skelf women are recovering from the cataclysmic events that nearly claimed their lives. Villa of Sun and Secrets by Jennifer Bohnet #Review @BoldwoodBooks

I am happy to feature in Boldwood Books' Blog Tour for Jennifer Bohnet's novel, Villa of Sun and Secrets, which was published on August 8th . Here's a little about the book:

It's never too late to live the dream...

Carla Sullivan’s 50th birthday is fast approaching when her whole world is turned upside down. Discovering her feckless husband is having yet another affair and following her mother’s death, she is in need of an escape. Finding an envelope addressed to her mother’s estranged sister Josette in the South of France gives Carla the perfect plan.

Seizing the moment, she packs her bags and heads to Antibes to seek out the enigma known as Tante Josette. But as the two women begin to forge a tentative relationship, family secrets start to unravel, forcing Carla to question her life as she has always known it.

A heart-warming tale on the beautiful French Riviera, which will keep you guessing. From the bestselling author of Summer at Coastguard Cottages, The Little Kiosk by the Sea and Rosie's Little Cafe on the Riviera. Perfect for the fans of Jill Mansell and Fern Britton.

My Thoughts

Set in the South of France, this is a novel which sparkles in the sun and paints a wonderful picture of life in the Villa Mimosa. Behind the idyllic setting however, is a tapestry of family secrets which are slowly uncovered. Carla is at a turning point in her life, as she reaches 50 and has decisions to make about where and how she wants to live her life. She re-discovers her Aunt Josette and sets in motion a tsunami in her Aunt's life. There are plenty of twists and turns in the plot as it becomes clear just how many people's lives have been affected by the past.

This is a book which is full of friends and family, of starting over and not living in the past. It is full of the colours and scents of France and has a real summer feel. There are plenty of secondary characters to spark your interest, as Carla's life opens out, as she faces the future. It is written with a light touch and some deft characterisation.

In short: Secrets surface and lives are transformed.
