Falling in love at Pennycress Inn by Sarah Hope #Review #ThePennycressInnSeriesBook2

I am thrilled to feature Book 2 in  The Pennycress Inn Series  by Sarah Hope . Falling in love at Pennycress Inn was published by Boldwood Books on June 15th. You can read my review of  Welcome to Pennycress Inn   here .  Is this just a summer romance or could it be more? Nicola grew up at Pennycress Inn, in the beautiful Cotswold village of Meadowfield, and now she’s come full circle by landing a job there. After a difficult few months, she’s happy to be back in the place she loves and calls home. The whole village is looking forward to the annual summer carnival, and Nicola is charged with asking the local farmers to lend their tractors and trailers for the occasion. It’s an easy task – until she meets the new owner of Little Mead Farm, who stubbornly refuses to help. On sabbatical from his City job for the summer, Charlie wants to do up his late uncle’s farm and put it on the market as soon as possible. The place might have been in his family for genera...

Lessons in love at the Cornish Country Hospital #Review

A broken bond...

Jo Bartlett's new series continues with Learning Lessons at the Cornish Country Hospital. It was published by Boldwood Books on October 3rd. You can read my reviews of the others in the series here: Welcome to the Cornish Country Hospital and Finding Friends at the Cornish Country Hospital and A Sound Family at the Cornish Country Hospital

Wendy Tyler's marriage ended when she discovered her ex-husband, Mike, had got his much younger new partner, Chloe, pregnant. Wendy's over Mike, but suddenly she fears her own daughters will find a new baby much more exciting that their old mum...

A chance encounter...

But when Wendy bumps into Chloe at St Piran's, it's clear something is troubling the fragile young woman. Wendy doesn't want to be sucked into Chloe and Mike's relationship, but she can't help worrying that Chloe needs someone to turn to.

A lesson in love.

And when Wendy realizes that Chloe is more fragile than any of them realised, she knows she has to step up. She might not love Mike anymore, but Chloe is about to join their family and Wendy can't just stand by. Sometimes life is hard, but the easiest lessons are built on a solid foundation of love.

Another brilliantly emotional and uplifting read guarenteed to have you laughing and reaching for the tissues. If you love Doc Martin, you will love this! Perfect for fans of Jessica Redland, Holly Martin and Heidi Swain.

My Thoughts

This is a great series with echoes of Jo Bartlett's Cornish Midwife series and a crossover of characters. You can read these as standalone stories but they are better read in order so that you understand the characters' histories. We return to Dannie and Charlie's story in this novel. They are anticipating the birth of their son and looking forward to their future as a family. Dannie has huge anxiety which she tries to deal with. Mindful of her relationship with her Mother, she is afraid that she may be like her Mother and struggle to maintain a strong maternal bond. However, as the story develops, you can see the differences in Dannie and her Mother. Dannie is a warm, empathic person as opposed to her cold, detached parent.

Life at the Hospital is varied and bust but the strong team in A and E support each other and keep their eye on Dannie who is working so hard. Gwen adds lots of humour, as ever,  and it is noticeable that Dannie might be lacking her own family closeness, but has a found family in her many friends. Parallel to Dannie's story, you see Chloe's. She too lacks family support but finds it in a surprising place. There are some upsetting aspects ro Chloe's story which many may find too much.  However, life goes on for all the characters and you wonder what will happen next.

In short: Family closeness and friendship conquers all.
