Changing Seasons for the Country Nurse by Kate Eastham #Review

I am thrilled to review the next in the latest series by  Kate Eastham. Changing Seasons for the Country Nurse was published by Boldwood Books on August 22nd.   In the quiet Lancashire countryside of 1936, city-trained nurse Lara Flynn must contend with far more than muddy lanes and b oisterous farm dogs. Still recovering from a past trauma and an ill-fated love affair, she’s determined to prove herself as a capable district nurse and midwife to a community that doesn’t easily welcome outsiders. As autumn sets in, Lara becomes a trusted presence at Ingleside Surgery - soothing frightened patients, forming a close bond with her spirited colleague Marion and earning the grudging respect of the erratic but brilliant senior doctor. But behind the laughter and team spirit, shadows loom. There’s loss, secrets buried deep in the hearts of her new friends and a face from her past that threatens everything Lara's tried to leave behind. When tragedy strikes a patient - a...

In Italy for Love by Leonie Mack #Review

Having loved Italy Ever After, We'll Always Have Venice and A Taste of Italian Sunshine by Leonie Mack, I am delighted to return to Italy and feature her latest romance, In Italy for Love which was published by Boldwood Books on October 22nd

.
Julia Volpe’s Italian dream has turned into a nightmare.

Still living with her ex, Luca, a year after they’ve broken up, desperate to sell the dilapidated B&B that was meant to be their future, Jules knows she needs to leave. There are just two problems. Her passport has expired and she’s broke.

Not quite ready to ask her parents for help – at the ripe old age of twenty-seven – Jules decides to head as far away from Luca as she can to work on an olive farm until she has enough money to pay for her passport and a ticket back home.

Jules has sworn off love, but she hadn’t bargained on the beauty of Cividale del Friuli, the ancient Italian town on the banks of the gloriously blue Natisone river. As the community of farmers, neighbours and locals generously welcome her into their lives, Jules can feel her defences crumbling. But it’s when she meets Alex, broodingly handsome yet charmingly gallant, that Jules truly knows she’s in trouble. Because Alex has sworn off love too, and his reasons run deep enough for him to keep his word just as Jules is starting to reconsider her resistance to romance.

Live your very own Italian dream and let Leonie Mack whisk you away. Romantic, spell-binding, truly touching and perfect for all fans of Jill Mansell, Mandy Baggot and Sarah Morgan.

My Thoughts

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Jules and Alex' story as they both were rather intriguing characters with several layers to peel back. In their own way, they are both dealing with heartbreak and issues from the past. The setting in the north of Italy sounds amazing and offers Jules a community and friendship in its own way. Jules is resourceful and determined. People recognise the sincerity behind her actions and respond to her as she wins them round. Slowly she realises that the villagers are being protective of Alex and she can see that the past has hurt him badly.

I found Alex' family to be likeable and they had an important part to play in his growing friendship with Jules. The chemistry between them is undeniable but you are kept guessing whether they will be able to overcome regrets about the past. For a slow burn romance with lively characters and a touch of humour coming from the two animal members of the household, this is well worth a read.

In short:  can love find a way?
