Christmas Wishes at the Station Bookshop by Margaret Amatt #Review #Glenbriar SeriesBook16

Welcme back to the beautiful Scottish Highlands for Margaret Amatt's  sixteenth in her Glenbriar  Series:Christmas Wishes at the Station Bookshop. This latest novel was published on 14th November by Leannan Press.   After one toxic relationship too many and more failed jobs than she can count, spirited Scarlett Finch has lost her sparkle and doesn’t think she can face this year’s festive season. The last thing she expects is to land a Christmas job at Glenbriar’s Little Station Bookshop, especially not thanks to a slightly unhinged older woman with a parrot, a pug, a wild imagination, and some crackpot ideas for displays – not to mention a flair for making unexpected decisions, like hiring Scarlett without telling the owner. Widowed dad-of-three Lloyd Miller is just trying to keep life on track. One Winter's Night by Kate Frost #Review

Today we have a wintry escapist read by Kate Frost and are travelling up to a festive Iceland. One Winter's Night was published on August 23rd by Boldwood Books.

To look to the future, you first have to face your past…

With Christmas just around the corner, Molly Bliss has almost hit rock bottom.

After the heart-breaking loss of her parents, an escape to Iceland to spend the holidays with her sister Claudia is a chance for her to find solace and focus on her neglected relationship with her boyfriend Howard. But when Howard 'misses his flight', Molly is forced to rethink her whole outlook on life.

Surrounded by her family, Molly has never felt more alone. With ongoing family tensions rumbling and a surprising connection with old flame Leifur and his friend James, Molly realises she has an opportunity to rediscover who she really is.

While exploring the wild beauty of Iceland, a fragile hope seeds itself in Molly and alongside the life-affirming experiences and new friendships that are forged, she’s forced to question why she ever put her own dreams on hold.

Will Molly allow grief and disappointment to destroy her chance at happiness, or can new love sparkle as the land of fire and ice begins to work its magic?

 My Thoughts

Set mainly in Iceland, the land of fire and ice is almost another character in the story. Molly loves the country and there are some gorgeous descriptions of the environment and the biting cold. Taken out of her everyday routine, Molly has the perfect opportunity to take a hard look at her life and make some far reaching decisions. Still grieving for her mother, Molly appreciates having her sister and her family around her. Molly’s sister has a marriage which Molly envies and an equal relationship. By comparison, Molly’s relationship with Howard seems one- sided and dull.

Molly is not the only character who is at a crossroads in their life. The message of the story seems clear: live your best life and do not be afraid to take risks. This is a lovely festive read which you can get lost in. With its hopeful message and uplifting tone, it is an escapist read.

In short: be bold and true to yourself.
