A Perfect Devon Summer by Debbie Morrison #Review #Brambleton

A Perfect Devon Summer  by Debbie Morrison was published by Prosperina Press  on 25th June 2026   Will this summer change everything for Trish – and for Brambleton?   Trish has spent years turning her beloved café-bookshop, Prosecco & Prose, into the social heart of Brambleton – until London developer Charlie Blackthorn arrives with plans for a sleek boutique hotel next door.   Handsome and confident, Charlie is certain he knows what’s best for Trish and Brambleton. His proposal splits the village, stirring wounds and firing up opinions.   When Brambleton’s anonymous new agony aunt weighs in, Trish is pushed out from the safety of her café counter into a summer of impossible decisions. Charlie may be infuriating, but he sees strengths in her she’s long forgotten, and his kindness unsettles her more than his hotel ever could. As tensions rise, should she defend her little kingdom from change… or dare to imagine something bigger?   Escap...

High Tides and Summer Skies by Jennifer Bohnet #Review #PublicationDay

I am so happy to be on the tour to celebrate Jennifer Bohnet's romance, High Tides and Summer Skies, which is published today by Boldwood Books on August 11th.

New beginnings don’t always mean painful endings . . .

A fabulous, timeless story of friendship set in Devon from bestselling author Jennifer Bohnet.

As time ebbs and flows over the summer both Katie Teague and her godmother Mattie Cranford discover their lives are at a crossroads

Mattie shackled to the family wool shop for over 50 years, feels life has passed her by. She dreams of seeing the world and shaking off a lifetime of regrets.

When Katie is made redundant, Mattie seizes the moment and asks Katie to move back to her home town of Dartmouth and breathe new life into the rundown wool shop and to her surprise Katie agrees.

As Katie settles back into the rhythm of Devon life and renovating the shop, Mattie sets off on a luxury cruise.

But the arrival of Katie’s ex-boyfriend with an unexpected dream job offer threatens to unsettle the calm waters.

Will she sacrifice the shop and Mattie’s happiness - or her own career?

 My Thoughts

I was soon invested in this story of starting over and second chances. You see these story threads running through the generations and there is the uplifting message that it is never too late to start again and make new friends and relationships. At the centre of the book is Katie who is at a crossroads in her career. Although she loves her work in the media, it seems that a break from it is very welcome and she takes up the challenge of breathing new life into her godmother's shop.  Katie proves to be independent and hardworking, full of ideas and open to making new friendships, as well as reconnecting with her childhood friends.

Mattie is an interesting character who you feel has plenty of new experiences she wants to try, once she has stepped out of the comfort blanket of her everyday routine. You see her ideas about the past challenged and she reassesses her views. There are some interesting parts of the story regarding what life was like in the Second World War in Devon and the arrival of some Americans stirs up memories for many. This is an uplifting story, with likeable characters and some mysteries to unravel along the way.

In short: Starting over, fresh starts
