My (Not-so) Perfect Summer by Phoebe MacLeod #Review

I am thrilled to be taking part in the Publication Day celebrations for My (Not-So ) Perfect Summer by Phoebe MacLeod. It is published today on May 7th by Boldwood Books .   Autumn’s summer is off to a smashing start… sort of. Earlier this year, Autumn’s life looked great: she had a great relationship with her brilliant teenage daughter Chloe and from September she was all set to be Deputy Head at the London school where she works. And with a pay rise on the cards, she was excited for her and her long-term boyfriend Marc to buy their first home. But Autumn’s barely opened the estate agent's website when Marc vanishes with half their savings, leaving her no choice but to move into grandma’s rural home in Kent. And things go from bad to worse when Autumn is involved in an accident during the move, leaving the village’s dashing new baker Jake in plaster cast, and making her a local outcast before she’s even unpacked her bags. Determined to put things right, Autumn offers to

The Christmas Season by Ally Sinclair #Review

Here is your invitation to take part in this second Regency Season of love and romance...set in the 21st Century with some very modern characters and issues. The Christmas Season by Ally Sinclair was published on 10th August by Hera Books

You are cordially invited to your Happy Ever After...

Emma Love is a matchmaker who believes in old fashioned courtship, over swiping left or right. She's inspired by Jane Austen, Bridgerton and a thousand and one perfect romance stories, where matches were made at elegant soirees and not by sliding into your intended's DMs.

This year, Emma is inviting you to a very special social season, where a hopeful singleton might find their own Mr Darcy waiting under the mistletoe. At a series of glamorous, festive, and, most importantly, romantic events, Emma is making it her mission to find love for everyone this Christmas Season.

How will she fare trying to find perfect matches for the Price twins, both too busy trying to outdo the other to ever look for love? Can she encourage the sexy Season rake, Theo, to change his ways? And what of Hope Lucas, who Emma has failed to match before, but who still has faith that Mr Right is out there?

And with Emma so focused on finding everybody else’s happy ever after, is she at risk of letting her own perfect match slip away?

Welcome to the Christmas Season.

An uplifting, original and romantic read that fans of Bridgerton, Lex Croucher and Lindsey Kelk will love.

 My Thoughts

This is the first book I have read this year with 'Christmas' in the title but I took a deep breath and plunged right in! I loved its predecessor, A Season for Love and I can tell you you will not be disappointed with the second in the series. It is a great concept which lends itself so well to the romcom format, with plenty of variety and lashings of romance. The Regency vibes are not too contrived and overall, it is a fun read.

The characters shine through the story. Emma has her own romantic issues in the background, but it is her clients who take centre stage. Their stories all give the plot a contemporary fee  and I found myself wondering what each event was going to be. There are several hints towards the end of the story as to what Emma's next Season might be. I do hope we get to see!

In short: The Season awaits...
