Death at Lovers' Leap is published today, on February 16th by Boldwood Books .You can read my review of the first in the series, Poison at the Village Show   here amd the second, Death at the Country Fair   here .     Westleham Village 1948 As Valentine's Day rolls around, Martha Miller finds herself unusually melancholy at the state of her own love life. With husband Stan still missing and with her growing feelings for Vicar Luke still shrouded in secrecy, there’s only one place Martha can go - famous local beauty spot, Lovers' Leap. Legend has it that those with a broken heart throw themselves off the bridge that spans the river, but Martha is certainly not about to do such a thing! The Cornish Secret of Summer's Promise by Laura Briggs #ALittleHotelInCornwallBook4 #Review #Giveaway

On Publication Day, I am delighted to return to Laura Briggs' A Little Hotel in Cornwall for the 4th in the series, The Cornish Secret of Summer's Promise which will I hope take us away from this cold January we find ourselves in. There is also a great giveaway to enter. Details are at the foot of this post.
As spring slips away from the hotel Penmarrow, excitement builds for an exclusive auction hosted at the hotel, featuring priceless possessions from a Hollywood actress turned lady of the manor, including her famous diamonds. Celebrities and collectors form a crowd that is keeping Maisie and the rest of staff busy, even as Maisie faces a crossroads for her manuscript.

But when the diamonds are stolen and Sidney is accused by the authorities, Maisie's dilemma as a writer is pushed aside out of fear that his future in Port Hewer is in jeopardy. Desperation to prove that someone else is behind the theft will lead Maisie to uncover a very different secret outside of jewel thieves and village rumors ... one that could change her life and her future forever.

Can Maisie deal with the latest secrets exposed — including those that paint Sidney's past in a questionable light? And as summer's dawn alters her idyllic life in Cornwall, will Maisie's feelings for Sidney change as well?

My Thoughts
This can be read as a standalone but you would honestly get more from the book if you were to read the first 3 in the series first. That way, you pick up on the relationships between the characters that much quicker. This one was a bit of a surprise for me, especially with its ending which I kept hoping would not actually take place. You realise how far Maisie has come since she first appeared at the hotel and you get to see just how important her ambition to publish her novel actually is to her. Maisie also gets to find out more about the mysterious author, Alistair Davies, who she has been seeking. I must admit, I was blindsided over that as well.

Maisie's romance with Sidney reaches a crossroads in this instalment of their story and I am looking  forward to the next story to find out what happens next! As ever, it is the characters in the hotel and village who make the book come alive and who give it colour. This is a great little series and has the added flavour , this time, of a whodunnit!

In short: Maisie's Cornish adventure continues...
