My Thoughts
Although this can be read as a standalone, I did find it hard, initially, to work out just who was who and I actually started again before I could figure it out. Once I had realised where everyone fitted into the story, it was fine. There are some interesting issues in the background of the characters' daily lives, some of which have a dark side. The community in Cologne seems like a closeknit one, although at times, Shelby wishes that everyone did not know everyone else's business. However, she seems to gather together those who would otherwise be alone which shows a caring, kind side to her.
Shelby's friendship with Janna gives you a good insight into her state of mind and what makes her tick. She is certainly driven by her desire to succeed and the two of them work together with a closeness which makes them seem like sisters. I liked how they seemed to know what the other was thinking. It is obvious that Shelby is trying to come to terms with the shift in their friendship since Janna's marriage. Shelby is trying to put issues from the past behind her, process them and move on. Set during Oktoberfest and then Christmas, this makes good seasonal reading. It is full of candlelight and cinnamon- a cosy, comforting read.
In short: A romance which is full of heart.

Deborah King is a spirited woman who was inspired to pursue
her dreams due to her mother’s death from early onset Alzheimer’s disease. She
has the unique ability to read people and tackle life’s hardships.
Deborah is a distinctive new voice in women’s fiction. After
raising two children, working with a not-for-profit wildlife rescue
organization, and reading too many books to count, she retired from her
personal training and weight management business to follow her dream of
writing.
Deborah is extremely grateful for having the opportunity to
work with many different people sharing and teaching what inspires her, which

She lives in Missouri with her supportive husband, two cats,
