Don't You Want Me Baby? by Rachel Dove #Review

I am delighted to be on the tour to celebrate the latest romcom by R achel Dove,   Don't You Want Mr Baby? which was published by  Boldwood Books on 15th November .    Amber Fitzpatrick is about to hit thirty and has achieved none of the things she hoped to have done by now. Her dreams of owning her own business seem out of reach. Her boyfriend has just dumped her and now her biological clock is clanging in her head. But maybe Amber doesn’t need a man for the next stage of her life? Maybe as an independent woman she can have a baby all by herself? There’s only one problem. Handsome but excruciatingly annoying best friend Tyler Williams. Tyler thinks Amber’s motherhood plans are plain crazy! She just needs to wait for Mr. Right to come along…and maybe he’s closer than she thinks? But with Amber hellbent on doing it alone, Tyler sets out to prove to her that being her best friend could also come with excellent benefits…if only she's brave enough to take the chance.

Stolen Kisses at the Loch View Hotel by Margaret Amatt #Review #TheGlenbriarSeriesBook1

It is time to head up to beautiful Scotland,  for Margaret Amatt's Stolen Kisses at the Loch View Hotel

One hotel. One week. And a secret that could change everything.

Ever-optimistic Briony Dalgleish has watched her dreams evaporate. Now, the only way to save her beautiful hotel in the Scottish Highlands is to sell up. In desperation, she agrees to a deal with an American businessman, but when his representative arrives, Briony recognises him as someone she’d rather forget.

American sci-fi geek Zach Somerton is on a last-ditch mission to redeem himself after an epic business fail. If he messes up this time, his career is over. But Scotland’s like another planet, and Zach’s facing crazy locals, bizarre legends, and a woman who’s out of this world. When his boss forbids him to reveal to Briony the real reason he’s at the Loch View Hotel, Zach’s loyalty is tested to the limit.

Forced to work together, Briony and Zach investigate the hotel's murky past and face up to their own. But getting too close could end their careers. Can Briony and Zach find a way to let in love? Or will secrets and lies crush their chance of happiness?

 My Thoughts

There is plenty of humour in this story and you cant help but smile at the state of the pink hotel and Briony's attempts to cope with the state of her surroundings. You can't help but admire how she tries to square her desire to keep the hotel running and to modernize it  whilst at the same time, trying to be pragmatic and practical by considering the idea of a sell out. It turns out that for some in the story, this is a second chance at romance and also a second chance for some people's careers and family relationships.

Zach is an interesting character. You sense that he has never really fulfilled his potential as he has drifted into a job which he is not really invested in. His stay at the hotel marks the dawning recognition as to what he really wants and how he can square his responsibilities to his family. He seems to relax and find that he can make friends by just being himself. I notice that this is the first in the Glenbrier series and I am interested as to how events pan out at the hotel and which of the characters who we have met might reappear.

In short : Second chances all round

About the Author

Margaret is a Scottish author and chocolate lover who has been writing stories for over twenty years (possibly more if you count her primary school efforts). Her early works will never see the light of day and are locked in dusty vaults on some old floppy disks. But after all those years of practise, Margaret released her first novel A Winter Haven in 2021. This is the first of a ten-book series set on the gorgeous Scottish Isle of Mull.

The stories are unashamedly romantic but with lots of drama and an eclectic mix of characters. Each book can be read as a standalone but followers of the series will enjoy catching up with previous characters.

A new spin-off series based in the Scottish Highlands is coming out in 2023.
