Should I Tell You? by Jill Mansell #Review
I was thrilled to be able to participate in the celebrations of Jill Mansell's latest novel, Should I Tell You?.
The most heart-warming novel you'll read this year ... from the Sunday Times bestselling author of AND NOW YOU’RE BACK
Amber, Lachlan and Raffaele met as teenagers in the seaside home of kind-hearted foster parents. Arriving in glorious Cornwall was the best thing that ever happened to them - and now, as adults, their bond is stronger than ever.
But Amber has a secret. She's in love with Lachlan. She can't confess her feelings because that would never work. Restless Lachlan dates a lot and definitely isn't the settling-down type. Surely it's better to keep him as a friend than to risk losing him for good?
Raffaele has his own dilemma. He had the dream girlfriend in Vee, until it all went horribly wrong . . . and he still can't understand why. Is Vee hiding something from him?
Now their widowed foster dad Teddy thinks he's found love again. Younger, charming and strikingly beautiful, is Olga as perfect as she seems? Or will she end up breaking Teddy's heart?
Against a backdrop of sparkling seas and sunny skies, the unexpected is always just around the corner. Welcome to Lanrock!
‘A good story like this needs a quiet afternoon a sofa and a warm blanket. Moving and heartfelt! Enjoy'
FERN BRITTON
'Gripping and incredibly comforting' MARIAN KEYES
'Like a little blast of sunshine - uplifting, heart-warming and supremely feelgood' SOPHIE KINSELLA
My Thoughts
This is such a gentle, warm read. Perfect if you feel like escaping into another world for a while. The characters are all vividly drawn and distinctive but you can actually believe in their friendships. Most of them have a secret or two which they are keeping to themselves. Not wanting to spoil the existing status quo, their instincts are to keep their thoughts to themselves.
I also loved the setting. It is always a good sign when the book includes a map and you can really picture the scene. Amber, Lachlan and Raffaele have all had difficult childhoods but there is a lovely message underpinning the story, that the power of love and kindness can heal the past. There are also some larger than life characters who keep you guessing a little as to their intentions which adds to the joy of the story. This is another delightful read by a skilful writer at the top of her game. Highly recommended
In short: Enter a warm and witty world.
