West Yorkshire 1900-1918 Today we are going back to the early days of the twentieth century to see how life in Almondbury changes at this critical time.   Trying Times for the Mill Girls by Chrissie Walsh is published  today on December 5th by Boldwood Books .   You can read  my review of Book 1 in the Lockwood Inheritance series, A New Dawn for the Mill Girls   here   In changing times, even the strongest must fight to hold on... At the dawn of a new century, mill mistress Verity Hardcastle and her husband Oliver welcome their long-awaited twins: gentle, golden-hearted Briony and spirited, stormy Blaise. No Ex Before Marriage by Portia Macintosh #Review

I am delighted to be on the tour for Portia Macintosh's latest romcom, No Ex Before Marriage. It was published by Boldwood Books on January 11th.

It's not over until someone says 'I do'...

While her friends join the "Wife Club" one by one, Poppy feels like that part of her life is done and dusted. Already married and divorced she's not desperate to go through all that again.

But what if her divorce never actually went through...?

After a shock revelation Poppy not only discovers she is still married, but that Zac is about to have his second wedding!

Coming face to face with her (almost) ex-husband after six years apart is never going to be easy. And when Zac panics and tells his new wife-to-be that Poppy is family, things can't get much worse as she is welcomed with open arms as part of the wedding party!

As the memories flood back, can Poppy really leave the past where it is? And can she watch the first love of her life walk down the aisle to say 'I do' once again?

My Thoughts

There is a rich vein of humour to be mined from this story. Full of larger than life characters, the story moves from one episode to the next. All the excitement of the build-up to a wedding is captured as well as the emotions that swirl around. In fact, you are invited to two weddings. In the first, Poppy realises how far apart she is in danger of drifting from her now married friends. The second wedding is one she never expected to be at- that of her ex-husband in a remote Scottish castle, on an island. Poppy has a very particular reason for being there.

You soon warm to all the characters you meet, with a few exceptions of the celebrity kind. The connection between Poppy and her ex is palpable. Full of fun and humour, this is a light romcom read for anyone wanting to escape for a while. Portia's books do not disappoint.

In short- Who will say 'I do'?
