The New Guy by Kathryn Freeman #Review

Any new novel by Kathryn Freeman brings a smile to my face and her latest, an enemies to lovers romcom, The New Guy, is published today by One More Chapter. If you want to have a look at my reviews of some of her earlier books, you can check them out here:  A Little Christmas Charm  |  Oh CrumbsA Little Christmas FaithCrikey a Bodyguard | Reach for a Star

Sam Huxton doesnā€™t do one-night stands, especially not with men sheā€™s just met! But the hot guy at the bar was hard to resist and their one night together is one sheā€™ll never forget.

But one night is all they share ā€“ no names, no numbers, just some much needed funā€¦

Until the same guy walks into Samā€™s life the next day as her new employee.  Sam never mixes business with pleasure and makes it clear an office fling with Ryan is off-limits.  But after-hoursā€¦one thing can lead to another. Can Sam trust her heart and her business with the new guy?

 My Thoughts

This is an entertaining romcom which takes a tongue in cheek look at office romances. On the face of it there are plenty of plot cliches but I didn't mind that. I always enjoy books which let you into the male perspective and Ryan's insecurities, which he tried so hard to hide, gave him more depth and back story. In some ways, Sam is harder to empathise with. She is the super competent company CEO, the brains behind the company, but I thought that the insights you got into her family helped to flesh out her character.

Kathryn Freeman always writes with an enjoyable, easy style which leads you through the story. There are some amusing secondary characters and of course, a real contrast between Sunshine Sam and the brooding Ryan.  This is an enjoyable and quick read and lovers of romcoms will speed thorugh it with a smile.

In short: Opposites attract.

About the Author

A former pharmacist, Iā€™m now a medical writer who also writes romance. Some days a racing heart is a medical condition, others itā€™s the reaction to a hunky hero.

With two teenage boys and a husband who asks every Valentineā€™s Day whether he has to buy a card (yes, he does), any romance is all in my head. Then again, his unstinting support of my career change proves love isn't always about hearts and flowers - and heroes come in many disguises.
