'Tis the (damn) Season by Fiona Gibson #Review

Festive reads continue with Fiona Gibson's 'Tis the (damn) Season, published by Boldwood Books.   This year, their families can deck the bloody halls themselves... Old friends Shelley, Lena and Pearl have reached their limit with the festive preparation that has always fallen to them, and five days before Christmas, they’ve booked a mini break… without their families. Up until Christmas Eve, they’ll be sipping prosecco in the Highlands while their kids wrap bacon around 100 chipolatas and their partners brave the supermarkets. It’s exactly what they need… until they’re snowed in. Facing the prospect of Christmas 500 miles from home, each woman is forced to confront her real reasons for needing to escape: the fiance with the obnoxious family; the son’s new girlfriend who is taking over their home; the family who take their mother for granted all year round… Will the friends make it home before Christmas day? And if they do, can they really go back to their old lives?

Clover Cottage by Christie Barlow #Review

I am so happy to be on the tour to celebrate the third in Christie Barlow's  Love Heart Lane series, Clover Cottage. It can be read as a standalone. You can read my review of the first in the series, Love Heart Lane, here
and the second, Foxglove Farm here.

Love Heart Lane – where friends are there for you no matter what.

When Vet Rory Scott inherits ramshackle Clover Cottage in the quaint village of Heartcross, Allie MacDonald just knows this is their happy ever after. A place to call home with the man she loves – it’s her dream come true!

Until Rory drops a bombshell. He loves Allie but he has dreams of his own to follow – to live and work in Africa. Clover Cottage will have to wait just a little longer…

Allie can’t imagine life without Rory, but she loves him too much to hold him back. And as he embarks on his adventure, Allie begins to rethink her own plans. She loves Rory and knows she wants him in her life, but maybe she can follow her own dreams too?
And always there, nestled in the beautiful village of Heartcross, surrounded by the people she loves, will be the place that will always bring them back to each other. Their forever home, Clover Cottage.

A page-turning new cosy novel in the bestselling Love Heart Lane series – perfect for fans of Katie Fforde, Phillipa Ashley and Milly Johnson!

                                                                                     My Thoughts

How lovely to return to Heartcross. to meet up with this close-knit community, again. Allie and Rory are an established couple who we have met before but in Clover Cottage, you see their relationship be tested and develop. Friends and in particular, family are important once again and there are some serious issues in Rory's family which come to light. Allie has different priorities to Rory and is a real homebody. You see the tension as they both try to reconcile their competing wishes for the future.

The writing is warm and I could absolutely envisage the village setting. The Summer Fete is a lovely, comedic episode, with the villagers welcoming the celebrity into their midst with glee. Similarly, the clients who come along to Rory's Veterinary Practice made me smile. I am sorry if this is the final instalment in the Love Heart Lane series. I have loved all three of the books.

In short: Family ties and unresolved dreams collide.
