The Viscount and the Thief by Emma Orchard #Review#PublicationDay

Today we have a regency romance by Emma Orchard. The Viscount and the Thief  is published today by Boldwood Books on November 11th.

Spring, 1811... A stranger arrives at Wyverne Hall

Sophie Delavallois is the new companion to the ageing Dowager Marchioness, but she also has another reason for coming to the infamous Wyverne mansion, one that will shake the family to their core.

Lord Drake left his childhood home many years ago, and only returns now to see his beloved grandmother. He takes little interest in the goings on of the house, until the arrival of Mademoiselle Delavallois. Thereā€™s something about her that he canā€™t put his finger on; it's as if heā€™s seen her before, but surely, that is not possibleā€¦

Sophie is also drawn to Drake, but he is a Wyverne, and she cannot allow herself to fall for him, because her intentions towards the family are resolute ā€“ revenge. But inside the walls of Wyverne Hall, she discovers the rumours about the family barely scratch the surface, and she canā€™t escape the dangerous allure of the Viscount.

Once her plans are set in motion, will he be her saviour or her ruin?

 My Thoughts

Sophie turns out to be a surprising central character in this Regency romance.  The story takes place within Wyverne Hall which is the home to an unusual family. Lord Wyverne is a dissolute lord of the manor, the complete opposite to his oldest son, Drake, the Viscount. As a companion to Drake's grandmother, Sophie meets some unusual visitors and she soon discovers why the reputation of the family is so despised.

This is a racy tale, Sophie has hidden talents and has come to the hall with a mission in mind. You also discover that she has an interesting family background which is a strong motivation to her. Drake's grandmother. an aged centenarian, turns out to be a perceptive observer, with decided views on the family members. Sharp as a tack, you will get nothing past her, as Sophie discovers. There are some surprising family secrets which come to light but at the centre is the undoubted attraction between Sophie and Drake.

In short: Secrets and lies abound
