Shared Secrets for the Home Front Nurses by Rachel Brimble #Review #HomeFrontNurses

It is now 1943 and we follow the lives of the Home Front Nurses as they cope with the effects of the Second World War. Shared Secrets for the Home Front Nurses by Rachel Brimble is published on February 13th by Boldwood Books .     ‘Come on, Kathy… tell me a secret.’ 1943: Becoming a Home Front nurse, meant Kathy Scott was finally able to escape the violence of her childhood. At long last, her life has taken a turn for the better. Particularly because, for the very first time, she’s made some wonderful friends–fellow nurses Sylvia, Freda and Veronica. Kathy’s known for not being short of a word or two. So nobody’s more surprised than her when she finds herself tongue-tied around Freda’s handsome brother, James – who’s home from war with an unexplained injury.   My Thoughts   The story of the Home Front Nurses continues into 1943 and Freda's ambition to nurse abroad gets ever closer. Her brother ,James, returns from the war having had a traumatic experi...

Fake it 'til you make it by Laura Carter #Review #PublicationDay

Happy Publication Day to Fake it 'til You Make It by Laura Carter. Another great romcom from Boldwood Books.

Can a fake date fix everything?

On a day Abbey thought would be the best of her life –her boyfriend is surely going to propose tonight, right? –it all falls apart: he tells her he’s met someone else. And then to make things worse, she loses her job.

In an act of reimagination, she splurges her wedding savings on renting an apartment in a building she’s always dreamed of living in and kits out her wardrobe to match.

But when her family invites her ex –a close family friend –plus a date(!!) to her parents’ vow renewal, Abbey realizes her façade won’t be enough. There’s nothing for it but to fake one more thing –a romance. And she knows exactly who to ask... her hot new neighbor...

A laugh-out-loud fake-dating rom com, with a chemistry you’ll be thinking about long after turning the last page. Perfect for fans of The Hating Game and Elena Armas

My Thoughts

If you enjoy a romcom, you will love this fake dating set up.  Abbey is a likeable central character who finds she has to start again, professionally and personally. She takes a chance and moves in to her dream apartment block, hoping that if she lives as she'd like to, it may all come true. By a twist of fate, the man upstairs, Ted, is also keeping his identity under wraps, wanting to avoid a few people and unwanted publicity. Of course the chemistry between them is palpable.

There are plenty of humorous moments in this light-hearted look at love. Friends and family add lots of life to the story and my favourite part was when Ted met Abbey's family. With misunderstandings and quite a bit of pretence, this makes for a lively read. You also get to see part of the story through Ted's eyes so this dual narrative adds variety.

In short: an entertaining read
