Shared Secrets for the Home Front Nurses by Rachel Brimble #Review #HomeFrontNurses

It is now 1943 and we follow the lives of the Home Front Nurses as they cope with the effects of the Second World War. Shared Secrets for the Home Front Nurses by Rachel Brimble is published on February 13th by Boldwood Books .     ‘Come on, Kathy… tell me a secret.’ 1943: Becoming a Home Front nurse, meant Kathy Scott was finally able to escape the violence of her childhood. At long last, her life has taken a turn for the better. Particularly because, for the very first time, she’s made some wonderful friends–fellow nurses Sylvia, Freda and Veronica. Kathy’s known for not being short of a word or two. So nobody’s more surprised than her when she finds herself tongue-tied around Freda’s handsome brother, James – who’s home from war with an unexplained injury.   My Thoughts   The story of the Home Front Nurses continues into 1943 and Freda's ambition to nurse abroad gets ever closer. Her brother ,James, returns from the war having had a traumatic experi...

The Cruise by Caroline James #Review

Here is another ideal Summer read by Caroline James, The Cruise. Her latest novel, it was published by One More Chapter on April 20th.

Three friends set sail on a luxury cruise… will they be able to catch a husband on the open seas?

Leaving behind the heartache, guilt and disappointment of their real lives, three friends decide that now they’re in their sixties, it’s time they finally did something for themselves!

Swapping Christmas turkeys and BBC reruns for crystal waters, white sandy beaches and smooth golden rum, Anne, Jane and Kath throw caution (and tradition) to the wind as they set sail on a luxury two-week Christmas cruise around the Caribbean.

Will the three friends find the comfort and joy they seek aboard the Diamond Star?

My Thoughts

The author’s sense of humour shines through this story as you follow the three friends, Anne, Jane and Kath on their holiday of a lifetime. The cruise has ample scope for humour through the many characters you meet on board and the places that are visited. Being on holiday gives the three women the chance to step away from their lives at home and to go searching for some fun and new experiences.

Friendship is the glue that binds the women together and keeps them grounded. It is clear that they just want each other to be happy. You find out some surprising secrets that at least one of them is hiding. Of the three , it seems that Jane changes the most as she gains confidence and loses her self consciousness. With some laugh out loud moments and lively characters, this proves to be a light hearted read and ideal for an escapist holiday read.

In short: fun and frolics on this Caribbean journey
