His Last Christmas Gift by Debra Borchert #Review

His Last Christmas Gift by Debra Borchert will take you to a different country and season. It was published by Le Vin Press on 1st November 2025. Widowed, fired, and 50, Claire is one hot mess. This later in life romance hits like a snowball packed with grief and hope and mystery and the kind of second-chance that says, “I didn’t think I’d ever feel this again, and now I’m terrified, but… Hi.” Romance that’s frost melting off a windowpane. It’s “I forgot my heart could do this.” It’s love doesn’t have an expiration date. Twinkly lights, mulled wine and flaming crêpes so immerse you in Christmas markets—you’ll book a flight to France before the fares go up. A book club fiction favourite, Claire’s journey of self-discovery is perfect for fans of women’s fiction and stories about strong women over 50 navigating reinvention with inspiration, humour, with a delicious frosting of romance. “Give yourself the gift of a lush, romantic, French adventure and be swept away ...

Chasing Dreams on Sunshine Island by Georgina Troy #Review #SunshineIslandBook3

I am so happy to introduce the third in the Sunshine Island series by Georgina Troy, Chasing Dreams on Sunshine Island. It was published on April 17th.

Welcome to Sunshine Island - where the beaches are golden, the lifestyle is perfect and anything is possible.

It’s December and Jax Hudson doesn’t mind the cold. He’s still wearing shorts and walking barefoot on the beach. He’s looking forward to spending Christmas with his girlfriend until she unexpectantly calls time on their relationship.

Alone and feeling very sorry for himself, Jax accepts an invitation to a Christmas Eve party and bumps into Phoebe Bishop who is still mortified about kissing him in the summer.

As the first snow flurries delight the party guests, the festive joy soon turns to disaster when a snowstorm knocks out the island's power. Panic ensues as people realise their Christmas plans may have to be cancelled.

Phoebe is reluctantly enlisted by Jax to help transport the partygoers to the comforts of their own homes. As Jax and Phoebe spend time together they realise they have more in common than either had imagined…

Could this be a Christmas full of magic, mistletoe and happy-ever-afters?

 My Thoughts

I had quite a surprise to find that this third in the series was set firmly in Winter, from December through Christmas to the New Year, but actually I soon settled into the season and enjoyed the story. Jack is a gorgeous character who is so kind and thoughtful. The whole community shines in this story and really pulls together, looking out for the more vulnerable and offering friendship.

You also have the contrast between the unselfish friendship offered to all and the self-centred behaviour of Phoebe’s so-called friend, Fliss. Similarly, family life is contrasted, with the close knit family life of Jax as opposed to Phoebe’s much more distant childhood.  Phoebe may have all the material things you can imagine but lacks the genuine non- judgmental affection which Jax has experienced. Full of warmth and kindness, this is an enjoyable romance which leaves you with a smile on your face.

In short: uplifting romance with a seasonal mood
