Christmas Wishes at the Station Bookshop by Margaret Amatt #Review #Glenbriar SeriesBook16

Welcme back to the beautiful Scottish Highlands for Margaret Amatt's  sixteenth in her Glenbriar  Series:Christmas Wishes at the Station Bookshop. This latest novel was published on 14th November by Leannan Press.   After one toxic relationship too many and more failed jobs than she can count, spirited Scarlett Finch has lost her sparkle and doesn’t think she can face this year’s festive season. The last thing she expects is to land a Christmas job at Glenbriar’s Little Station Bookshop, especially not thanks to a slightly unhinged older woman with a parrot, a pug, a wild imagination, and some crackpot ideas for displays – not to mention a flair for making unexpected decisions, like hiring Scarlett without telling the owner. Widowed dad-of-three Lloyd Miller is just trying to keep life on track. One Summer in Monte Carlo by Jennifer Bohnet #Review

I am pleased to take part in Boldwood Books' Blog Tour for Jennifer Bohnet's latest novel, One Summer in Monte Carlo, which was published recently on January 12th 2021.

Monte Carlo means different things to different people; a billionaires playground, overflowing with glitz and glamour but also where dangerous secrets hide.

For Nanette Weston, and her then fiancé, F1 racing driver Zac Ewart, their dream life came to an abrupt halt 3 years ago following a car accident which Zac walked away from, but left Nanette being airlifted back to the UK, never to return and never to see her fiancé again.

Monte Carlo was a place she wanted to forget, not revisit. But when her friend and employer, Vanessa asks Nanette to look after her children in the Principality for a few months, Nanette knew she had no choice but to return.

As the F1 circus once again comes to town, with Zac in pole position, mistakes of the past, leave legacies for the future...

This book was previously published as Follow Your Star by Jennifer Bohnet.

My Thoughts

I started off reading this novel, expecting a contemporary romance but soon realised there is more to the story than that. There is a mystery to be solved and some darker issues beneath the surface. Guilt and deception are lying beneath the surface and there is a lot to think about in the plight of the people who Vanessa meets. Exploitation of poorer people seems to allow some to live the millionaire lifestyle.

The past reappears to unsettle Nanette and there are certainly issues she has to face up to and some uncomfortable truths.Nanette's family grounds her and gives her character added depth. I loved the setting of course, especially as I read the story in 'the bleak midwinter'. It added a certain gloss and glamour to the story and the sights and sounds of Monte Carlo are abundant.

In short: a warm and inviting read
