See the Stars by Eleanor Ray #Review

See the Stars by Eleanor Ray will be  published on February 5th 2026 by Piatkus .  Do you ever feel that life isn't going to plan?   When Alice Thorington collapses in the street after a particularly hellish day at work, she must finally admit to herself that her outwardly happy life - steady relationship, well-paid job, beautiful flat in the city - isn't everything she'd hoped it would be. Burnt out by long hours and living a life that doesn't fulfil her dreams, Alice returns home to Yorkshire.  Her childhood home brings complicated family dynamics, a rediscovery of her passion for stargazing and two new friends: Berti, a boy who finds it easier to count the stars than interact with people, and Matt, her brother's best friend and Alice's teenage crush. With each of them facing their own struggles, can the stars that meant so much to Alice in her past help them to find their way in the present?  Filled with heart and warmth, this uplifting novel...

The Gin Lover's Guide to Dating by Nina Kaye #Review #Giveaway

Today I have  a refreshing, new romcom for you with the added bonus of a great Giveaway to enter. Details on how to do this are at the foot of this post. The Gin Lover's Guide to Dating was published by Dash Orion on November 4th and I am delighted to be joining in the celebrations.

When life gives you lemons... add a splash of gin! A deliciously feel-good romantic comedy for fans of Sophie Ranald

When Liv's high-flying career goes off the rails, she finds herself working at a glitzy new gin bar to pay the bills. She's never let romance distract her, but with one very hot colleague, a mysterious online follower who might just be her soulmate, and a lot of cocktails, her dating life is about to be shaken up...

But is Liv looking for a sparkling flirtation, or something a little stronger?

Sometimes you have to face up to your past, seize your future, and mix your own recipe for happy ever after...

My Thoughts

If you are looking for a fun and feelgood story, with a good range of characters and a little mystery to solve at its heart, this will be the romcom for you. Liv is one of those characters who is instantly likeable yet you are shown her insecurities and flaws as well as her shining good points. Set in Edinburgh, you get to sample Liv's life as she appears to lose everything and yet begins to look at life through a different lens. I'm sure if you know the city, you will recognise some of the places she takes you to and maybe recognise some of the characters who she sees out and about.

Liv's eye for character points and body language seems to be spot on and her wry writing style adds some zest to the story. I really enjoyed reading her blog and could imagine its subjects only too well. There is plenty to smile at but also a slightly darker edge. Not everything in Liv's past can be airbrushed out. This is a fast paced story with lots to entertain and to be recommended.

In short: A cocktail of surprises.
