Maddy's Christmas Wedding by Rosie Green #LittleDuckPondCafeBook37#review

Here we are at Book 37 in the Little Duck Pond Cafe series! Maddie's Christmas Wedding is the latest novella by Rosie Green.   With the wedding of the year approaching, excitement is running high at the cafĂ©! But there's just one problem. Maddy is grappling with a secret. Could it derail all of hers and Jack's glorious plans for their big day? Will there actually be a wedding?   My Thoughts In this latest festive story, we are taken out of Sunnybrook, in fact, out of the country and taken for a wintry stay in Lapland. It is Maddy's hen party gathering so some of the Little Duck Pond characters are along too. The story continues on from the earlier Cosy Nights and Snowball Fights . The setting is idyllic and so different to life at home. Everything shimmers and shines in the snow and the temperatures are extreme. Maddy should be having the time of her life but she finds that she has a lot on her mind and a heartbreaking decision to make.     With the men le...

A Cumbrian Village...

Three suicides...

A red-hot summer...

Join super-sleuth Hattie as tempers and temperatures rise in the Cumbrian village of Hollywood. With mischief and shenanigans aplenty, will Hattie discover the truth?

A funny and intriguing mystery – the first in a new series by Caroline James

When recently bereaved Hattie Mulberry inherits her aunt’s dilapidated cottage in the village of Hollywood in Cumbria, she envisages a quiet life. But retired hotelier Hattie is bored and when her neighbour asks her to investigate a suspicious suicide, Hattie’s career takes a new direction and H&H Investigations is born.

During the hottest summer for years, Hattie discovers there have been three recent suicides in Hollywood and she determines to find out why. Temperatures rise as she throws herself into village life and, with mischief and shenanigans aplenty, Hattie has her work cut out. But will she establish the truth?

My Thoughts

What a change in gear this book was for me. Having read the nordic noir, Death Deserved, I was plunged into the world of the cosy crime. I remembered Best Boomerville Hotel fondly so I was delighted to discover that Hattie was to get her own series and appreciated the references to Boomerville and her friend, Jo. This is a crime mystery which is full of humour. The characters who people the beautiful village of Hollywood, in Cumbria, breathe life into the story. There is such a variety, all adding to the colour of the story. None more so, of course, than Drake, the duck who adopts Hattie.

In Hattie, you have your own Miss Marple and I appreciated the great reveal at a gathering of villagers. There were plenty of surprises in it and I can see the series running and running as there is such a lot of potential in the format. Hugely enjoyable and light-hearted, this is definitely a series to look out for.

In short:  Humour and sleuthing- great fun!
