Murder at the Duomo by TA Williams #Review #ArmstrongandOscarMystery

Even angels can have a dark side... As the sticky heat of August settles over Florence, Dan Armstrong is ready for a well-earned break—sightseeing with fiancĂ©e Anna, daughter Tricia and her fiancĂ© Shaun. But when a British man is found dead inside the city’s magnificent Duomo, Dan’s plans quickly change. The victim, Tristan Angel, is a super-wealthy arms dealer with a saintly name and a devilish reputation. But what was he doing in the cathedral, and who decided to make it his final confession? At Angel’s opulent villa in the hills of Fiesole, Dan and Commissario Virgilio encounter a colourful cast of suspects—each one hiding secrets and none too eager to talk. As tempers rise and the heat outside grows ever more intense, Dan and his four-legged sidekick, Oscar, must sniff out the truth before the killer strikes again.   My Thoughts  With an Armstrong and Oscar Mystery, you are always sure of a carefully plotted story with several red herrings and alternative po...

Christmas Miracles at the Little Log Cabin ** Blog Tour Review**

Christmas reading continues today with Helen J Rolfe's Christmas Miracles at the Little Log Cabin, which is published today!

Do you believe in Christmas Miracles?

Holly is looking for a change and even though not everyone agrees with her career choices, she’s determined there’s more to this life than the long hours she works as an editor in New York City. What she doesn’t expect is to meet Mitch, a recluse who’s hiding more than she realises.

Mitch does all he can to avoid human contact, spending his days in the little log cabin out in the woods behind Inglenook Falls where he owns a Christmas tree farm, so when Holly falls into his life, he’s not sure how to react. All he knows is that something needs to change if he ever wants to get his life back on track.

Along with friends Cleo and Darcy, Holly is determined to bring joy back to Mitch’s life, but will he appreciate their interference? And when a business proposition throws everything up in the air, will it do more harm than good and ruin lives forever?

Both Holly and Mitch must learn that on the surface people aren’t always what they seem…but if you dig a little deeper, they can take you by surprise.

Curl up this Christmas for plenty of snowflakes, roaring log fires, a marriage proposal, unlikely friendships and second chances as we return to the much-loved characters in the New York Ever After series.

My Thoughts

It was great to meet up with some familiar characters from Christmas at the Little Knitting Box which I reviewed last year and  you can read my review here.  Although Christmas Miracles at the Little Log Cabin can be read as a standalone, it was good to have some background on a few of the characters. This is really a story about coming to terms with the past and taking a leap of faith for a second chance. The setting at Inglenook Falls sounds delightful. What can be more festive than a Christmas Tree Farm and a snowy log cabin?

Holly is a resourceful and brave character who is taking a step into the unknown and becoming a freelancer. Her friends support her and her sense of drive and purpose contrasts with Mitch's reclusive lifestyle. Through her meeting with Mitch, she begins to question certain aspects of her life. Despite issues in the background about depression, mental health issues and loneliness, this is overall a joyful story and perfect for a December weekend.

In short: heart-warming romance set against a snowy, festive backdrop.
