The Freshman Parents by Ko Porteous #Review #EmptyNesterSeries

On 10th July, The Freshman Parents by Ko Porteous was published by All Ways Books Ltd. They’re off for the time of their lives. But are you? Book #1 in The Empty Nesters Series. Single parent Heather isn't neurotic (honest!) - she's simply dreading the day her only child leaves for university - so her meticulous checklists grow longer by the hour. When she seeks advice on a parents' forum, she clashes with They're Scott, a single dad whose "helpful" statistics and assertions about “helicopter parenting” leave her fuming. Move-in day delivers the ultimate surprise: their daughters aren’t just roommates – they are self-declared "besties for life". Suddenly, Heather and Scott are thrown into a begrudging alliance. As they navigate the new status quo, Heather's instinct to organise meets Scott's philosophy of letting go. Their practical text messages about mattress toppers and emergency supplies evolve into conversations about dream job...

Love Accidentally by Phoebe Macleod #Review #Publication Day

Happy Publication Day to Phoebe Macleod whose romcom, Love Accidentally, is published today on June 30th by Boldwood Books.

Sometimes, what happens on the nightshift, should stay on the nightshift...

As an A&E nurse, there’s not much that can catch Tilly off guard (not even those kinds of accidents). But when her bachelor flatmate gets a girlfriend and her sister announces she wants another baby, Tilly is surprised to find herself questioning her happily single existence.

Thankfully, the arrival of a new face on the ward offers a welcome distraction. With his lustrous hair, and charming personality, Dr Luke sets hearts racing all across the hospital. But as Tilly and Luke get to know each other better, she starts to wonder if he’s really her McDreamy after all...

Is Tilly being blinded by her determination to find someone? And while she’s looking in Luke's direction, will Tilly miss what’s right in front of her?

 My Thoughts

Set in a busy A and E hospital setting, this romcom provides you with a ready made community of friends and colleagues. Tilly is a single, career minded nurse who is well established there but who begins to question whether she wants more from life. She's ready for romance and when the dashing new doctor appears, the attraction is undeniable. The trouble is that Luke seems a bit evasive at times and seems to shy away from intimacy. Although alarm bells might begin to ring for the reader, Tilly stays determinedly set on finding romance.

The hospital setting provides some amusing moments which I am sure health professionals might recognise. Tilly's friendship with her flatmate and their errant landlady adds to the story providing character led humour. You also feel that the story splits into two parts and when opportunities for new friendship and possible romance appear, you hope that Tilly will see what the reader can. This is a gentle romance with humorous moments and some entertaining moments.

In short: new friendships and new romance
