Starting Again in Silver Sands Bay by Karen Louise Hollis #Review

 

Here we have a starting over romance, by Karen Louise Hollis. Starting Over in Silver Sands Bay was published on 5th April. 


Becki is fifty and a single mum to eleven-year-old Jemima, after being widowed five years ago.

Dan is forty-eight and a single dad to eleven-year-old Freddie, after his wife left him five years ago.

They have both given up on love.

But when they all go to Silver Sands Bay on the Lincolnshire coast for the summer, will they be able to put the past behind them and find love again?


 My Thoughts

This story is a celebration of staying again and of families. You follow two single parents and see their paths cross. Both Becki and Dan have spent the last few years devoting their time to their child and establishing a secure and happy lifestyle. Their own needs seem to have been ignored. When they meet when on holiday, they are struck, not just by how much they are attracted to each other but also how well their families get on. 

    The setting in the coastal caravan park makes you feel that you are going back in time to a time before the internet and social media. This gives the families the opportunities to do things together, play old board games and go for beach walks. The children want the best for their parents and the arrival of Becki’s sister adds another dimension. It makes for a gentle, heartwarming read as the families escape from their busy lives.

About the Author

 

I was born in Lincoln, England in 1969. I loved writing from an early age, being the daughter of two journalists. I am a mum to five children and have three grandchildren. I have had over twenty books published and have written about a variety of topics including motherhood, poetry, Doctor Who and gymnastics. My first novel Welcome to Whitlock Close came out in 2022 and my second one Starting Again in Silver Sands Bay in 2023.
