Shared Secrets for the Home Front Nurses by Rachel Brimble #Review #HomeFrontNurses

It is now 1943 and we follow the lives of the Home Front Nurses as they cope with the effects of the Second World War. Shared Secrets for the Home Front Nurses by Rachel Brimble is published on February 13th by Boldwood Books .     ‘Come on, Kathy… tell me a secret.’ 1943: Becoming a Home Front nurse, meant Kathy Scott was finally able to escape the violence of her childhood. At long last, her life has taken a turn for the better. Particularly because, for the very first time, she’s made some wonderful friends–fellow nurses Sylvia, Freda and Veronica. Kathy’s known for not being short of a word or two. So nobody’s more surprised than her when she finds herself tongue-tied around Freda’s handsome brother, James – who’s home from war with an unexplained injury.   My Thoughts   The story of the Home Front Nurses continues into 1943 and Freda's ambition to nurse abroad gets ever closer. Summer in San Sebastian by Joy Skye #Review #SublimeRetreatsRomancesBook4 #PublicationDay

I am delighted to feature an author who is new to me, Joy Skye. Her latest novel in her Sublime Retreats Romances series, Summer in San Sebastian, is published today.

Abigail’s world has disintegrated, leaving her jobless, homeless, and loveless in a remarkably brief space of time.

Where else can she lick her wounds but in Spain with her dippy Aunt May. She pulls on her big girl pants, swears off men and leaps on the opportunity she’s offered in San Sebastian. Determined to get her life back on track and find her place in the world, it finally all seems to be coming together.

Until she meets Gabe. Gorgeous, grumpy, incredibly annoying, and obviously hiding a secret, but she has to battle against the insane attraction she has for him. He’s only there for a week, after all.

When his secret spills out on National TV, can she overcome her past hurts and learn to trust again, risking her new found job and family in the process?

 My Thoughts

This is a truly escapist read which whisks you off to San Sebastian, to all the sun, sea and romance that you'd expect to find here. Abigail certainly goes there to lick her wounds and to try to put her life back together. Her Aunt May is a gorgeous, lively character, full of artistic flair and kindness. She is just what Abigail needs at this stage in her life. Estranged from her father, Abigail has to re-evaluate her feelings towards him and learn to trust again. It seems her relationship with her father has influenced her feelings about men in general.

Gabe is certainly dynamic but you sense that there is more to him than the polished front he puts on. In some ways, he is ready to also take a fresh look at what he wants for his future. He too has trust issues which he has brought from his childhood. An ideal holiday read, this is a gentle romance which will please those looking for a romantic story.

In short: gentle romance set in the Basque country
