A Christmas Miracle in the Little Irish Village by Michelle Vernal #Review

Michelle Vernal's A Christmas Miracle in the Little Irish Village was published on September 27th by Bookoutre . Ava Kelly loves returning to Emerald Bay for Christmas. Snowflakes fall on the green rolling hills and mulled wine fills The Shamrock Inn with the smell of winter spice. But this year, the Kelly family is hoping for a miracle… When twenty-four-year-old Ava Kelly and her adventurous twin Grace return home to The Shamrock Inn, their Ma’s favourite baubles bring back so many memories of Christmases past. They have always done everything together, even leaving their little Irish village for the excitement of London. But with the locket her handsome ex Shane gave her hanging just above her heart, Ava has just one wish this festive season… After a year stuck in a job she can’t stand and going on dreadful dates, Ava longs to be back with Shane. Curling up in front of the fire with him, the brooding fisherman everyone else sees melts away as his blue eyes meet hers.

Red Velvet by Carla Luna #Review #Blackwood Cellars series Book2

Today I am featuring the second in the Blackwood Cellars series, Red Velvet, by Carla Luna. You can read my review of the first, Blue Hawaiian, here.

Faking it has never been so much fun…

In her ultra-competitive family, April Beckett is used to taking last place. For years, she’s put up with jabs about her modest job and her pathetic love life. Especially after she tried to impress her older sisters with a fake boyfriend in college and failed miserably. But now she has a smoking-hot date for her brother’s wedding, guaranteed to wow them.

Until he bails. Cue total desperation.

Without April’s friendship, Brody Blackwood wouldn’t have survived his last breakup. So, if she needs a plus-one for a family wedding, he’s all in. Even if it means pretending to be her boyfriend. And committing to six days of activities at a wooded resort in Wisconsin. But how hard could a relaxing getaway with your best friend be?

Too bad there’s a grueling 10K race and a cutthroat trivia night to endure. Not to mention a massive secret to protect. But will the biggest secret of all turn out to be that this fake relationship feels more real than April or Brody ever imagined?

My Thoughts

I thoroughly enjoyed this second in the series. It has the same light tone of Blue Hawaiian and again we are at a destination wedding- this time in Wisconsin. I must say, April's family seemed to be a bit of a nightmare to me! They are ultra-competitive and high achieving. You immediately understand why April feels so vulnerable and on edge around them. As the story develops, you realise that there is more to it than the outer show and you begin to see them as individuals.

Friendship and relationships are at the heart of the story. You see quite a variety of relationships among the family and friends. April and Brody are pretending that they are a couple, to save April's embarrassment at being jilted. Can friends turn into lovers? That would be telling! There are plenty of warm, humorous episodes and unexpected guests to keep the story turning. I was delighted to see that there is a third planned in the series.

In short: Love is in the air!
