Charlie's Last Angel by Maggie Christensen #Review

I am delighted to feature the latest novel by Maggie Christensen whose novel, Charlie's Last Angel was published by Cala Publishing on Jume 9th.  Some years ago I was asked to ask Maggie some questions about her writing and you can read her answers  here .  In her early fifties, Harri Caldwell has always prided herself on being a strong, independent woman. Content with her single life, she loves her role as headmistress at the prestigious Lilian Cooper College for Young Ladies in Brisbane.  High profile barrister Charles Kaye has lived a charmed city life. With an amicable divorce behind him and three grown daughters, he is often featured in gossip columns alongside beautiful young women, a revolving cast his daughters nickname Charlie’s Angels. When Charles and Harri meet at an art gallery opening, the instant connection is undeniable and, much to the chagrin of Charles’ daughters, a relationship quickly ensues. Their romance attracts media attention,...

Autumn Dreams at Mermaids Point by Sarah Bennett #Review

I couldn't be happier to introduce the second in the Mermaids Point series by Sarah Bennett. Autumn Dreams at Mermaids Point was published by Boldwood Books on 23rd September so it is hot off the press!

When her dreams of young love were cruelly shattered, Nerissa Morgan found it hard to move on. Now, at forty-three, everyone around her is enjoying life while she’s just going through the motions. With her boss retiring and rumours of a new doctor coming in to take over the practice she manages, change is coming, whether she’s ready for it or not.

Following the death of his beloved wife, Tom Nelson buried himself in work at his busy inner-London GP practice. When his teenage children find themselves in trouble at school, he realises he’s completely lost touch with them. Desperate to reconnect before it’s too late, he whisks his family away to the pretty seaside village of Mermaids Point determined to make a fresh start.

But all is not as idyllic as it seems. With his predecessor reluctant to let go of the reins and the children as distant as ever, the last thing Tom needs is an undeniable attraction to the woman he unexpectedly finds himself sharing a roof with…

Warm, escapist, feel-good and altogether brilliant story-telling from bestselling author Sarah Bennett. Perfect for all fans of Trisha Ashley and Milly Johnson.

 My Thoughts

This is a warm hug of a book, just right for some Autumn reading! If you have read its predecessor, you'll be delighted to meet up again with some familiar characters and to see how life in Mermaids Point is progressing. Family is once again at the heart of the story. This novel revolves around Nerissa and the new doctor, Tom along with his family. Both Tom and Nerissa have past loves and this is a slow burn romance set against the difficulties a couple of teenagers can bring.

What you never doubt is Nerissa's kindness and her good sense. Although she takes the time to look back and remember, she never loses sight of the need to be hopeful and positive about her future. The ties between the Morgan family prove as strong as ever and Mermaids Point is just such a delightful place to meet them. Warm, uplifting, joyful- these are all words to describe this lovely read. With a Christmas novella to look forward to, this gentle story will carry you through to all that festive reading which is coming over the hill!

In short: New starts and old friends
