My Christmas Number One by Leonie Mack #Review

Congratulations to Leonie Mack on her debut novel, My Christmas Number One. It was published on 10th September by Boldwood Books.

Javi and Cara are forced to record a Christmas single together, but neither of them have plans to spend any more time with each other than they absolutely have to. With Christmas traditions that couldnā€™t be more different, and outlooks on life that are worlds apart, the chemistry just shouldnā€™t work. But the magic of Christmas can bring evenopposites togetherā€¦

Thereā€™s nothing quite like a Christmas love story, to get you in the mood for celebratingā€¦

Cara doesnā€™t do sexy and she only does ā€˜Happy Christmasā€™ under duress. She is, after all, a serious musician, and her stubborn streak is born from her struggle to recover from a serious injury.

Javi lives for escapist fun - in his music, and in his life - especially since heā€™s always failed at lifeā€™s more serious challenges, including marriage and fatherhood.

From the snowy beauty of London at Christmas, to the candle-lit magic of Javiā€™s traditional family celebrations, let Leonie Mack whisk you away on a memorable festive adventure. Perfect for fans of Trisha Ashley, Mandy Baggot and Holly Martin.

My Thoughts

My Christmas Number One tells the story of two opposites who are pushed together by their record company to collaborate on a Christmas single. At first, they seem totally different personalities but as the story unfolds, you start to notice a few similarities. You are taken to Miami, Mexico and Colombia for a large portion of the story and this gives the festive read a distinctive air. In these two characters, you certainly have a clash of cultures, both musically and environmentally.

Through both characters, Leonie has explored aspects of PTSD, disability, living with anxiety and also guilt and grief after loss. There is more to the book than a light-hearted festive read. Cara in particular shows that she has the resilience to overcome lifechanging difficulties. Family is also important, but as you discover, not all family members are easy to live with! Nevertheless, they added to the story and were always sympathetic. If you are looking for a Christmas story with a difference, you won't be disappointed!

In short: Sun, sea... and snow?
