Meet the Author: Rishikesh Upadhyay Ph.D
Today I am delighted to welcome author, Rishikesh Upadhyay to Books, Life and Everything to talk about his writing life and his latest non-fiction writing, The Secret of Plants in the Environment, which was published on April 2nd 2020, by Notion Press.
I grew up in a small Nepalis’ hamlet, a few kilometer from Haflong in the district headquarter of NC Hills, India. I took a couple of degrees, PhD, MPhil of Plant Environmental Physiology and Chemistry and had a classroom experience of more than eleven years including three years of post-graduate level at Assam University, India. I gradually started teaching and writing research articles, popular articles and review articles on my subject from my post-MSc class onwards.
When did you first realise you were going to be a writer?
Well.., I have never considered myself as a writer. When I taught Environmental Science or Botany at the University or at my local govt. college, my lectures were like stories for the students. It has simply gone with flow of thoughts and my writings.
If you didn’t write, what would you do for work?
Teaching or doing research, rather I love both.
What are you interests apart from writing?
I love teaching, doing experiments in the laboratory, reading books, thinking, and observing different nature of plants.
What is your favorite childhood book?
I used to read whatever books having colorful cover or picture inside, those were to be my favorite books.
Tell us about your latest book without giving the plot away.
My latest and third book, just released in April, 2020, is The Secret of Plants in the Environment.I have started writing this book during the month of April, 2016. The book is all about plant and its adaptation to different environments.
What are your writing routines and where do you do most of your writing?
As you know it’svery hard to get yourself or anyone back in that zone of thinking about the imaginative world or idea that's in your mind. During the day, I work at my local government college, and by night I pour my imagination and ideas out onto a page. I believe in and write about Plants and its environment.
How difficult was writing your second book - did having one published change how you went about it?
I actually had two books written before I published my third book. I wrote Plant Stress Physiology focusing on submergence and flooding stress on plants. I then wrote Plant Heavy Metal Stress based on metal toxicity inplants. There are now three books in the same genera of Non-fiction/Botany/Environment/Nature. Plant Stress Physiology and Plant Heavy Metal Stress, both are now available in paperback edition from all the leading online book stores worldwide.
Does writing energize or exhaust you?
Both, sometime.
If you could tell your younger writing self-anything, what would it be?
Please think, before writing.
Can you give any hints about any upcoming books you have planned?
I'm working on my fourth book, possibly it will come soon. It's very different, but almost like with my third book on subject matters.
Thank you so much for that insight into your work and writing and good luck with book 4!

Book Spotlight: The Secret of Plants in the Environment
Plants are sessile organisms that are unable to move but face the challenge of ever-changing or adverse environments. The study of the development of environmental changes in tolerant plants is fundamental for the maintenance and streamlining of high crop yields and plant adaptation in natural environments. The identification of genes that lead to changes or stress tolerance is urgently needed for the growth and development of plants in their natural environment. The Secret of Plants in the Environment addresses environmental concerns such as the different types of stress situations and plant adaptation to changing environments, including the positive and negative effects of stress on the growth of crops, the beginning stages of plant life cycles, and plant output. This book seeks to discuss the impact of environmental changes or stress on plant life, environmental stress physiology, and adaptation mechanisms. It highlights the impact of environmental stresses on plants and crops under changing environments and gives a comprehensive overview of how plants respond to such environments. In addition, it serves as a helpful guide to the students and to all professionals engaged in teaching and research on environmental-related subjects. It dwells on some important aspects of environmental change or stress as the main issue affecting the survival of plants at the early stages of their life cycle. Hence, the author hopes that both early-career scientists and research scholars interested in pursuing environmental science to an advanced stage would also benefit from the important information discussed in this book.
