The Little Cottage by the Cornish Sea by Nancy Barone #Review

It's back to Cornwall for a great summer read. Nancy Barone's The Little Cottage by the Cornish Sea was published by Aria on July 3rd. Life doesn't always go to plan . . . After a messy breakup and a nightmare boss, Kate swaps the chaos of London for the calm of Starry Cove—the charming seaside village she loved as a child. She arrives hoping for peace and a fresh start. But life has other plans: Kate soon discovers she's going to be a mother. As she navigates small-town life (and morning sickness), Kate finds friendship in the 'coastal girls'—a warm, welcoming group who help her land a job with Piers, the reclusive owner of the local manor. He's guarded, grumpy and impossible to read... but there's more to him than meets the eye. As feelings grow and secrets slowly come to light, Kate must decide if s he's ready to open her heart again—and whether Starry Cove could be the home she's been searching for all along .   My Thoughts   After...

The Heart of a Peach by Jess B Moore #Review

Today I am featuring a gentle romance, The Heart of a Peach on the blog. Jess B Moore's novel is the sixth in her Fox River Romance series.

Olivia Hamilton can do no wrong. Or at least that’s what the community of Fox River, North Carolina thinks of the odd but sweet young lady. She’s hiding a past she’d rather forget, engaged to the town’s most eligible bachelor, and longing for someone to see past the mask she wears. Olivia wants to find herself, forgive herself, and fall in love with someone who sees and embraces her flaws.

Denver MacKenna grew up the fiddle-playing prodigy of not only his hometown of Fox River but of North Carolina and the surrounding states. He plays obsessively and tours as often as possible, escaping a life of loneliness at home. Until he meets a beautiful siren who calls to him and has him making plans to settle down. Denver knows it’s wrong to covet the elusive Olivia, but finds himself inexplicably drawn to the brief glimpses she gives him of her true self.

My Thoughts

This is a gentle slow-burn romance between two likeable characters, who have a lot in common and who both seem slightly on the outside of town life. Denver is the oldest of his siblings and his family seems such a contrast to Olivia's controlled life. The warmth of Denver's family is so different to the coldness on show for Olivia. Treated as a child by her parents, you see how her mother and fathers' views begin to diverge and one of the fascinating aspects of the story is the family dynamic.

Olivia shows a false face to the world at first and hides her true feelings behind a mask. She controls this as much as she is controlled by her father. Her past is hidden from view. How I disliked Olivia's fiancé - another one who wanted to dominate and bully. As the story unfolds, you see Olivia change and mature. A satisfying read.

In short: Slow burning romance

About the Author

Jess B. Moore is a writer of love stories. When she's not writing, she's busy mothering her accomplished and headstrong children, reading obscene numbers of books, and knitting scarves she'll likely never finish.

Jess lives in small town North Carolina with her bluegrass obsessed family. She takes too many pictures of her cats, thinking the Internet loves them as much as she does. She is a firm believer of swapping stories over coffee or wine, and that there should always be dark chocolate involved.

The Fox River Romance novels combine her interests in family, music, and small towns into thoughtful tales of growing up and falling in love. These books can be read as stand-alone, or as a series starting with The Guilt of a Sparrow.
