Shared Secrets for the Home Front Nurses by Rachel Brimble #Review #HomeFrontNurses

It is now 1943 and we follow the lives of the Home Front Nurses as they cope with the effects of the Second World War. Shared Secrets for the Home Front Nurses by Rachel Brimble is published on February 13th by Boldwood Books .     ‘Come on, Kathy… tell me a secret.’ 1943: Becoming a Home Front nurse, meant Kathy Scott was finally able to escape the violence of her childhood. At long last, her life has taken a turn for the better. Particularly because, for the very first time, she’s made some wonderful friends–fellow nurses Sylvia, Freda and Veronica. Kathy’s known for not being short of a word or two. So nobody’s more surprised than her when she finds herself tongue-tied around Freda’s handsome brother, James – who’s home from war with an unexplained injury.   My Thoughts   The story of the Home Front Nurses continues into 1943 and Freda's ambition to nurse abroad gets ever closer. Her brother ,James, returns from the war having had a traumatic experi...

The Wedding Date by Zara Stoneley ** Review**

Today's post features The Wedding Date by Zara Stoneley. A light hearted romcom, it is just the read for a hot summers day.

One ex.

One wedding.

One little white lie.

When Samantha Jenkins is asked to be the maid of honour at her best friend’s wedding, she couldn’t be happier. There are just three problems…

1) Sam’s ex-boyfriend, Liam, will be the best man.

2) His new girlfriend is pregnant.

3) Sam might have told people she has a new man when she doesn’t (see points 1 and 2 above)

So, Sam does the only sensible thing available to her… and hires a professional to do the job.

Actor Jake Porter is perfect for the role: single, gorgeous and cheap! Sam is certain it’s the perfect solution: no strings, no heartbreak and hopefully no chance of being found out.

But spending a week in the Scottish Highlands with Jake is harder than she imagined. He is the perfect boyfriend, charming, sexy and the hottest thing in a kilt since Outlander! And his dog Harry is quite possibly the cutest things Sam has ever seen!

As the wedding draws closer, Jake plays his part to perfection and everyone believes he is madly in love with Sam. The problem is, Sam’s not sure if Jake is acting anymore…

My Thoughts

This is a very funny and amusing rom com which takes the reader on a great journey as Samantha plans how to save face at her friend, Jess' wedding. It has some lovely touches- a mixture of slightly over- enthusiastic parents, twenty-something friends and all the paraphernalia which goes along with weddings these days. Invited up to Scotland to a remote and beautiful estate, Samantha has a week of social gatherings and drinks parties to get through, without anyone suspecting her subterfuge.

With a seemingly perfect 'boyfriend' to charm her friends and families, the reader is in on the joke and the fun and games never flag. It is perfect light- hearted reading and I was able to escape for a lovely afternoon's reading session into Samantha's world. The true star of the show of course is Harry the dog who gets up to his own share of mischief.

In short: A romcom with some genuinely funny moments and an array of characters who all add to the fun.
