The Dowager's Grand Triumph by Susanne Dunlap #Review #DoubleDilemmaRomanceBook6

The Dowager's Grand Triumph: A tender Regency romance of second chances, dangerous secrets, and unexpected love. (Double-Dilemma Romance Book 6)

The man she never forgot has returned—with secrets that could cost them everything.

Caroline, Dowager Marchioness of Lewiston, has accepted the life she was given: a grand title, a comfortable house, and a heart trained not to want what it cannot have.

Sent to India years ago to prevent his marriage to Caroline, Thomas Ashcombe returns with a fortune, a beloved daughter, and dangerous evidence of East India Company corruption.

As old feelings between Caroline and Thomas awaken, the secrets surrounding his past may destroy all hope—especially when a new law makes suspicion as dangerous as guilt.

Thomas’s daughter, Anjali, faces her own trials in a society determined to question where she belongs. Intelligent, courageous, and caught between worlds, she never expects to find an ally in awkward, honest Sir Julian Meredith, a barrister more at ease in court than in any drawing room.

But when Julian and Anjali are drawn into her father’s political danger, they must find the courage to expose a truth powerful men will do anything to bury—and to trust in a love that gives them both a place to belong.

                                                                        My Thoughts

In this double dilemma tale, you follow the story of two couples. When Thomas returns after years in India, his friendship with Caroline is rekindled and he asks her help to launch his daughter on the social scene. She accepts, although she knows that with Anjali's anglo- indian background, there may be difficulties to face. The socially ill at ease barrister, Sir Julian Meredith meets Anjali and seem to have an understanding from the start. Anjali is beautiful and intelligent and comes from a high standing on her mother's side. She struggles with the view that some have of a woman's place in society. To some she appears unconventional, especially because of her mynah bird which she uses to put strangers on the back foot. Only Sir Julian seems to take it in his stride.

The politics of the time affect these couples directly and form a major part of the story. A recent Act of Parliament has threatened people's freedoms and is used against Thomas to try to silence him and to cover up corruption. The four protagonists must work together to get through the situation without scandal. This is a most interesting dimension to the story and underpins the growing romances which we see.

In short secrecy and cover-up
