A Shore Thing by Portia Macintosh #Review

I am happy to feature another laugh outloud romcom by Portia Macintosh . A Shore Thing  was published on January 26th by Boldwood Books .   It's survival of the fittest! From the moment Cleo met Lockie, her infuriatingly charming co-casting producer on hit reality show Welcome to Singledom, he’s been getting under her skin. Their job? Casting singles for the ultimate island romance. Their problem? They can’t agree on anything. Now, the cameras are ready to roll, and the contestants—well, most of them—are en route. But when the threat of a tropical storm delays half the cast, launch night turns into a total disaster. With no Plan B, Cleo and Lockie are forced to step in as contestants. Just for 24 hours until the real stars arrive. Simple, right? Except tensions are sky-high and sparks are flying for all the wrong reasons! All they have to do is couple-up and get voted off - but there’s a storm coming, so leaving the island might not be so easy. Cleo’s used to pu...

The Best is Yet To Come by Jessica Redland #Review #EscapeToTheLakesSeries

Jessica Redland's series, The Escape to the Lakes, continues with The Best is Yet to Come. It was published by Boldwood Books on 3rd September.

Emma is having a fresh start.

After a successful teaching career, an exciting new chapter awaits Emma – helping her fiancé Grayson run one of Beatrix Potter's farms. While imagining days spent supporting Grayson with his dream, working the land and helping with the animals, Emma harvests a dream of her own – to set up an alpaca-walking business around the farm.

But working together isn’t as easy as Emma expected. Soon her dreams are in tatters and, broken-hearted, she must start over yet again.

When Oliver, Rosie and the team at Willowdale Hall welcome Emma with open arms, she can't believe her luck. But starting a new business in a new place is a daunting prospect, especially when it comes with unexpected obstacles. With a reserved, prickly groundskeeper as a partner, rapidly changing family dynamics to contend with, and time running out to get her new career off the ground, Emma may have bitten off more than she can chew.

But even though things are not going to plan just yet, the best is yet to come for Emma, if she can just take a leap of faith and follow her heart...

Escape to the Lake District with million-copy bestseller Jessica Redland, for an uplifting story of family, friendship and love.

 My Thoughts

I love this series which is set in the beautiful Lake District, with its references to Beatrix Potter. You have your doubts early on about Emma's plans for the future but it is so interesting to see how her sense of self-worth evolves. Her friendships are very important to her but it seems that her family ties are absolutely crucial to her in being able to carry out her ambitions.

Emma's enterprise with her alpacas provides an entertaining  backdrop to the story and each one has a different personality, adding warmth to the story. It is also great to meet up again with those at Willowdale Hall and to find out what the future has in stotr for Oliver, Rosie amongst others. This is an entertaining series with some good observations about people's lives and what is important to cherish.

In short: Family secrets come to light.
