See the Stars by Eleanor Ray #Review

See the Stars by Eleanor Ray will be  published on February 5th 2026 by Piatkus .  Do you ever feel that life isn't going to plan?   When Alice Thorington collapses in the street after a particularly hellish day at work, she must finally admit to herself that her outwardly happy life - steady relationship, well-paid job, beautiful flat in the city - isn't everything she'd hoped it would be. Burnt out by long hours and living a life that doesn't fulfil her dreams, Alice returns home to Yorkshire.  Her childhood home brings complicated family dynamics, a rediscovery of her passion for stargazing and two new friends: Berti, a boy who finds it easier to count the stars than interact with people, and Matt, her brother's best friend and Alice's teenage crush. Enemies to Lovers by Portia Macintosh #Review

It's Happy Publication Day to Portia Macintosh for her latest romcom, Enemies to Lovers which is published today by Boldwood Books

Lara and Sonny are sworn enemies.

As rival showbiz journalists, they are always out to get one-up on each other – whether being the first to scoop the latest celebrity gossip, or sabotaging a potential lead.

So when their bosses ask them to join forces and go undercover at an exclusive celebrity retreat, they can’t think of anything worse - except that they are going to need to pretend to be in couples therapy to blend in...

Being on a tropical island for work would be most people’s idea of heaven, but for Lara and Sonny it’s hell. Can a week of sun, sea and uncovering showbiz secrets together chip away at Lara and Sonny’s rivalry? And once they get home and the fake relationship is over, could a real one be left in its place?

Join top 10 bestseller Portia MacIntosh for a laugh-out-loud, enemies to lovers, fake relationship romantic comedy.

My Thoughts

At work, Lara treats Sonny like her number one enemy who she has to outdo at every turn. He has a more laid back attitude but does seem to delight in getting the better of her. You can't help but notice the chemistry between them and as the story develops, you realise that there is a history between them from their younger days.

There are some amusing moments in the story which makes for a fun read. I also enjoyed trying to work out the dynamics between the other couples who Lara and Sonny meet on the mysterious island, which they spend time on as undercover journalists. The effect of the regime which is forced on everyone adds to the interest and you do wonder just how far the couples will let it happen. This is an entertaining read which is well up to Portia Macintosh's standard and which is a pleasant antidote to the festive stories which I have been reading before Christmas.

In short: New year, new characters, new romcom
