Arden by G D Harper #Review

We start 2025 by visiting the sixteenth century and meeting two remarkable people from the time, one of whom happens to be William Shakespeare. Arden by G D Harper was published on October 1st by Ginger Cat .   The astonishing untold story of Shakespeare's first play Alice Arden, idealistic and wealthy beauty, burnt at the stake for killing her husband, the former mayor of Faversham in Kent. But was she really the one responsible for the most scandalous murder of the sixteenth century? William Shakespeare, England’s greatest playwright, born thirteen years after Alice’s execution. Why does his first-ever play, written about this murder, not bear his name? This is a story of two people – one reviled, one revered – whose fates become linked in a tale of corruption, collusion and conspiracy. Based on historical documents and recently published academic research, Arden unveils shocking new evidence about the murder of Thomas Arden and reveals, for the first time...

Conveniently Wed to the Laird by Jeanine Englert #Review #Giveaway #FallingForAStewartBook3

We have some historical romance today, set in the Scottish Highlands. Conveniently Wed to the Laird by Jeanine Englert is published by Harlequin Historical on January 24th. I also have a great giveaway for you to enter. Details are at the foot of this post.

The laird’s bridal bid…

Is love too high a price to pay?

When new laird, Ewan Stewart, comes across a wife for sale at a market, he outbids everyone to rescue her. He never intended for Catriona to become his bride, but a convenient marriage could secure his clan’s future and her freedom. They agree that their arrangement must stay free of love, yet Catriona’s bravery and fire intrigue him. Can Ewan resist falling for his wife—the one rule he must not break?

 My Thoughts

Set in the Highlands, this historical romance introduces some likeable characters who are shown to have flaws as well as virtues. Ewan has an impulsive side but also a sincerity which shines through. I sure how to be a successful laird, he has to learn to trust his own instincts and not try to be a carbon copy of his father.

Catriona longs for freedom but finds that as a woman, some see her as a possession to further their wants and needs. There is a mystery at the heart of the story, ie who she actually is. Her desire for a family is so strong. Ewan has to learn to risk his heart and take a chance. His vulnerability puts him at risk of losing what he wants. This is an entertaining read, full of romance and fervour.

In short: romance among the clans
