Shared Secrets for the Home Front Nurses by Rachel Brimble #Review #HomeFrontNurses

It is now 1943 and we follow the lives of the Home Front Nurses as they cope with the effects of the Second World War. Shared Secrets for the Home Front Nurses by Rachel Brimble is published on February 13th by Boldwood Books .     ‘Come on, Kathy… tell me a secret.’ 1943: Becoming a Home Front nurse, meant Kathy Scott was finally able to escape the violence of her childhood. At long last, her life has taken a turn for the better. Particularly because, for the very first time, she’s made some wonderful friends–fellow nurses Sylvia, Freda and Veronica. Kathy’s known for not being short of a word or two. So nobody’s more surprised than her when she finds herself tongue-tied around Freda’s handsome brother, James – who’s home from war with an unexplained injury.   My Thoughts   The story of the Home Front Nurses continues into 1943 and Freda's ambition to nurse abroad gets ever closer. One Summer Sunrise by Shari Low #Review

I am delighted to feature the latest novel by Shari Low, One Summer Sunrise which was published by Boldwood Books on June 3rd.

As the sun rises on a hot summer’s day, four lives are about to be changed forever...

Brand new from the bestselling author of What If?, What Now? and One Day In Summer.

Today, Maisie McTeer decides to track down the ex who jilted her at the altar. Today, she’ll find out that revisiting the past can also rewrite her future.

After losing her husband, Harriet Bassett can no longer bear her lonely life. Today, a familiar face in a crowd will spark a quest to discover if there’s something and someone worth living for.

Scott and Kelly Bassett’s daughter is leaving home. Today, Scott plans to tell Kelly that he’s ending their marriage to pursue his rock and roll dreams.

However, Kelly, has a bombshell of her own. How will Scott react to the news that a new arrival is on the way to fill their empty nest?

Between sunrise and sunset, there’s love, heartbreak, laughter and tears, but who will find happiness at the end of the day?

My Thoughts

This novel takes place over one day and follows the lives of four different people who are all brought together at a fundraising concert for a theatre group. At the outset, some of them seem unconnected but as the story develops, you realise that there are certain links. I enjoyed looking at the different generations and seeing that each person was at an important point in their lives. Carly is about to leave home after graduation, which leaves her parents facing an empty nest. However, there is much more to the picture than that. The most affecting character is Harriet who feels at the beginning that she has nothing left to live for. Lastly, there is Maisie, who has unfinished business with her ex-fiance.

Family is an important part of this book and as you see, can take different forms. There are some warm and witty characters and you can genuinely believe in the ties between them. There are moments of humour to set against some poignant ones. In all, this is a great summer's read, with lively characters and uplifting moments.

In short: Lives collide
