Christmas at Hollybush Farm by Jo Thomas #Review

Welcome to another festive read by Jo Thomas. Christmas at Hollybush Farm was published by Penguin on October 9th.   Jemima Jones is driving home to her family's magical hill-top farm for Christmas…  And on arrival, she soon learns that her dad has been keeping a secret – all is not as it seems, and Hollybush Farm is struggling to make ends meet! Worried about losing the childhood home she loves, Jemima must pull on her winter wellies and get stuck in. Amid the chaos of chasing after escaping sheep and organising the Christmas tractor run, Jemima begins documenting her slice of farming life on social media. As she builds a supportive online following, she also forms an offline connection in the shape of charming, retired rugby player Llew, her very own Santa's helper.  With a sprinkle of festive cheer and a dash of goodwill, might the community pull together to help save the farm in time for Christmas? Today I am delighted to be taking part in the Publication Day blog blitz to celebrate Laura Jane Williams' latest novel, The Lucky Escape.

ONE CANCELLED WEDDING

When the day finally comes for Annie to marry Alexander, the last thing she expects is to be left standing at the altar. She was so sure he was Mr Right. Now, she has no idea how she could have got it so wrong.

ONE UNEXPECTED ENCOUNTER

After a chance meeting with Patrick, an old friend who reminds her of who she used to be, Annie takes a vow of her own: she’ll say yes to every opportunity that comes her way from now on.

ONE SPARE TICKET FOR THE HONEYMOON

Could a spontaneous trip with Patrick be the way to mend Annie’s heart? She’s about to find out as she embarks on her honeymoon – with a man who’s not her husband…

 My Thoughts

This is a fun read, just right for a Summer's weekend. Annie is left reeling at the beginning from a life changing event and much of the book shows her trying to put her life back together. Realising that she is unhappy with the facade she has shown to the world and the sublimation of her own wants and needs, Annie has to discover how she wants to live. Her relationship with her family, especially her mother, is complicated and has had an effect on her view of herself.

When Annie meets Patrick, she meets someone with a completely different approach to life. He has his own reasons for this, as you discover. If you are looking to escape into a light-hearted story with some humorous touches and likeable characters, you will enjoy this novel.

In short: romance and travel- a winning combination.
