The Forever Cottage by Jill Steeples #Review

Having enjoyed Jill Steeples' Primrose Wood series, I am delighted to feature the first in her latest series set in the Cotswolds, The Forever Cottage . It was published by Boldwood Books on June 19th.   It's never too late to change your story... Tess Alexander lives an enviable life with her husband Charles, at Hollyhocks Cottage in the idyllic Cotswold village of Lower Leaping. Dreaming of their early retirement, Tess’s plans are dashed when Charles shares some devastating news and suddenly she’s left alone with only Barney, her adorable Beagle dog, for company. Facing an uncertain future, Tess tries to reconnect with her old self. She begins to transform the neglected garden office into a beautiful retreat, the perfect spot for her to indulge in her long-forgotten creative passions. However, a chance encounter with charming but down on his luck, Rob Templeton, soon puts pay to her plans, when she offers him the place to stay instead, sensing a kindred spirit. ...

A Little Christmas Hope by Kathryn Freeman #Review

I have been looking forward to reading this festive read from Kathryn Freeman. A Little Christmas Hope is the third in her Christmas Wishes series.

Newly promoted head teacher Anna Dalton needs a Christmas miracle – and fast! After years of sitting through excruciatingly dull Christmas productions, complete with crying children and sleeping parents, she’s determined Riddlescomb Primary School will put on a Nativity to remember.

Enter bad boy actor Dan Ramsey, recently axed from the lead role in a TV drama and in desperate need of cleaning up his image or he’ll never work again.

Dan can flash those heart-stopping dimples all he likes, Anna tells herself she isn’t going to fall for them. She knows why he’s decided to volunteer at the school, and it’s for the good of his career…not his soul.

But as Anna and Dan are forced to work together for the sake of a truly magical Christmas for the children, sparks fly and they can’t help but wonder what will happen once the festive season is over…

My Thoughts

This Christmas romance is just up my street and certainly did not disappoint. I enjoyed the mixture of romance and humour which anyone who has had any part in rehearsing primary school festive productions will recognise. I always enjoy Kathryn's male characters and seeing a story through their eyes.  Dan's character is strongly drawn and despite his past, has your sympathy from the start.

Anna's character has lots of layers and sadness in her past to come to terms with. Her daughter helps to make her  come alive and through her, you see a less stuffy side to Anna, the headteacher. There is a lot to enjoy in the story, with its endearing characters. The icing on the cake for me has to be a visit to the Lake District to a familiar place and a catch up with some old friends. I loved finding out what has happened to Faith and her family - not to mention Nip and Tuck!

In short: Curtain up!

About the Author

A former pharmacist, I’m now a medical writer who also writes romance. Some days a racing heart is a medical condition, others it’s the reaction to a hunky hero.

I’ve two sons and a husband who asks every Valentine’s Day whether he has to buy a card (yes, he does), so any romance is all in my head. Then again, his unstinting support of my career change proves love isn't always about hearts and flowers - and heroes come in many disguises.
