You can read my review of  Hopeful Hearts at the Cornish Cove here and Finding Family at the Cornish Cove   here .    It’s never too late… After five husbands and five broken hearts, Lydia feels like she’s always been chasing something. Never be Broken by Sarah Hilary #Review #Giveaway

Today I am delighted to feature #6 in the DI Marnie Rome series, Never be Broken. I also have a great Giveaway of a copy of the book. Details on how to enter are at the foot of this post. (UK only)

Children are dying on London's streets. Frankie Reece, stabbed through the heart, outside a corner shop. Others recruited from care homes, picked up and exploited; passed like gifts between gangs. They are London's lost.

Then Raphaela Belsham is killed. She's thirteen years old, her father is a man of influence, from a smart part of town. And she's white. Suddenly, the establishment is taking notice.

DS Noah Jake is determined to handle Raphaela's case and Frankie's too. But he's facing his own turmoil, and it's becoming an obsession. DI Marnie Rome is worried, and she needs Noah on side. Because more children are disappearing, more are being killed by the day and the swelling tide of violence needs to be stemmed before it's too late.

NEVER BE BROKEN is a stunning, intelligent and gripping novel which explores how the act of witness alters us, and reveals what lies beneath the veneer of a glittering city.

My Thoughts

The sixth DI Marnie Rome novel continues the high standard of its predecessors. You can read my review of #4 in the series, Quieter than Killing here. I also have had the chance to host a guest post with Sarah Hilary where she talked about the writing of Marnie Rome and you can read it here.

This is a story which is set in a dark, gritty London where there are dark and murderous thoughts. The young, vulnerable and those on society's periphery are caught up in the depths of the plot and there is a realism which resonates today. Issues of class, race and social inequality are woven into the story.

Marnie Rome and Noah Jake's partnership is at the heart, with Noah's mental health and deep grief over his family key to his actions and a strength in the telling of the tale. With a layered plot and well drawn characters, you are kept engaged throughout.
