The Freshman Parents by Ko Porteous #Review #EmptyNesterSeries

On 10th July, The Freshman Parents by Ko Porteous was published by All Ways Books Ltd. They’re off for the time of their lives. But are you? Book #1 in The Empty Nesters Series. Single parent Heather isn't neurotic (honest!) - she's simply dreading the day her only child leaves for university - so her meticulous checklists grow longer by the hour. When she seeks advice on a parents' forum, she clashes with They're Scott, a single dad whose "helpful" statistics and assertions about “helicopter parenting” leave her fuming. Move-in day delivers the ultimate surprise: their daughters aren’t just roommates – they are self-declared "besties for life". Suddenly, Heather and Scott are thrown into a begrudging alliance. As they navigate the new status quo, Heather's instinct to organise meets Scott's philosophy of letting go. Their practical text messages about mattress toppers and emergency supplies evolve into conversations about dream job...

The Love Dilemma by Tracy Corbett #Review

Happy Publication Day to Tracy Corbett for her latest, The Love Dilemma which is published today by Rubha.

Enemies in the Office. Lovers in the Making. A Lie Too Big to Ignore.

When fiery physiotherapist Elena Romero and buttoned-up solicitor Danny Jackson are forced to share a workspace, it’s instant mutual dislike. She sees a workaholic in a designer suit. He sees yet another opinionated woman complicating his already stressful life.

Yet behind the tension, both are secretly shouldering heavy burdens: Elena is stretched thin caring for her ill sister, while Danny’s world revolves around the younger brother he’s raised alone. When Elena helps Danny recover from an injury and he advises her sister on a legal matter, sparks fly—and not just from their feisty arguments.

But when family loyalties and legal battles collide, everything falls apart. With trust broken and secrets exposed, can enemies turned lovers find a way back to each other before it’s too late?

A witty romance full of heart, heat, and high stakes, perfect for fans of enemies-to-lovers and messy, modern love stories.

 My Thoughts

In this warm and humorous story, you follow the lives of three sisters: Elena, Sofia and Luisa. They are a strong family unit who share the loss of their mother and are struggling to cope without their father who is out of the country, trying to come to terms with his grief in his own way. Family matters to them more than anything and especially more than work despite financial pressures.

The sisters' lives collide with Daniel and his brother, Connor who have a complicated family dynamic. Daniel still feels the rejection he suffered at the hands of his cold and aloof parents whose death led to him becoming his little brothers' guardian. Family is paramount here too but a recent traumatic experience has taken its toll. Both Danny and Elena seem to be looking for excuses to stay within their own safe lives although their personalities are so different. Elena and her sisters choose to live in the moment, partly for their stricken sister, Luisa who struggles to cope with her life limiting illness. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting these characters as their lives clashed and their first impressions set the scene for a tempestuous journey.

In short: enemies to lovers.
