One of a Kind by Jane Lovering #Review
I am delighted to feature Jane Lovering's One of a Kind which was published by Boldwood Books on June 13th.
A long-held secret, and a beautiful heart hoping to be
understood.
Cressida Tarbet loves her job at an animal rescue centre, even if it means she’s resigned herself to scrimping to make ends meet - a lifestyle far removed from her best friend Ivo’s, in his ancestral gatehouse stuffed with antiques and art.
But although their upbringings were different, Ivo has held Cress’s heart ever since she clapped eyes on him at university. The trouble is – she has never told him. So, when a mystery and a baffling crime throw Cress and Ivo together, she can’t help but wonder if fate is telling her something.
As the puzzle takes them from beautiful Yorkshire, to the stunning Isle of Wight, the pair get closer. Ivo begins to understand the cause of Cress’s risk-aversion and she puts her irritation at his brilliant mind to one side as she starts to appreciate Ivo’s uniqueness. But then the unthinkable happens and their worlds are turned upside down, and Cress has to wonder if fate was calling after all…
Uplifting and unforgettable, settle back to enjoy this one-of-a-kind novel about falling in love with a one-of-a-kind man. Perfect for fans of Jessica Redland, Beth Moran and Jo Barlett.
My Thoughrs
The majority of this story takes place on the Isle of Wight and the sea and the coastline play an important role in the plot. Cressida and Ivo are an interesting pair as they seem quite different on the surface. Cressida has opted for a steady role in animal rescue, whilst her University friend Ivo has a more flamboyant approach to life and is an investigative journalist. They make a great team. As the story evolves, you understand more about Ivo and what makes him tick. Coming from an affluent family, his attitude to his possessions is quite different to Cressida who has had a much more simple upbringing with her single mother. However, as you discover, there is more to her background than meets the eye.
Although romance is very much on Cressida's mind for the whole of the story, most of the time I felt that this book had a strong feeling of being a cozy crime story. There is quite a mystery to unravel. I enjoyed the book very much, principally because of the relationships and the characters who kept up the pace of the narrative. It is an entertaining read with sparky dialogue and plenty of humour.
In short: warm, entertaining read
